Chrome has many "features" that primarily serve a data mining tools. They are present even in chromium, but are usually disabled by default. As for the closed source bits, we dunno what all is going on in there, could be nothing, could be almost exclusive datamining/ subtle zombie tools.
Omnibox will by default send google everything you type, even in incognito. It devours memory, even at times where it doesn't make sense, and goes well beyond caching. There was also the bit where they had a "mic is always on and listening" update that pissed off TONS of people.
