I'm done with smartphones.

I've never liked them anyway. But now after breaking the umpteenth one I'm completely over them and decided to go back to "feature phones". What are some good-looking simple phones that don't break? A very basic internet access could be a plus, but definitely not mandatory.

Is the Caterpillar B100 the ultimate feature phone?
>>
>>54573108
I've dropped my moto x and have had it for almost 3 years and it still runs perfect. I'm going to try rooting it soon and it will run even better.

Start using better devices m8

How do you even break so many phones?
>>

You desperately need to get a decent case. Ballistic makes very good cases that make your phone pretty much butterfingers-proof while still looking good.

As long as I'm outside and my pants are on then yes my case chain is perma hooked to my belt/pants

I was thinking about forging some iron/steel work to encase the case in
>>

Wouldn't that interfere with the phones signal?

Go get an iphone since it's easier to find cases for them and find a case that works for your rough lifestyle.

Nokia 515 is the best feature phone.
>>
Is there a dumb phone I can tether to?
>>
I recently broke my phone and bought a cheap no name dumb phone as a temporary replacement and to my surprise am actually loving it.

There are two features which I am missing though. I mainly use SMS and the phone has a storage of only a few hundred messages so have to delete them frequently.

The other feature I am missing is that messages are not grouped into conversations.

Does anyone know a decent dumb phone that has these features? It is pretty much everything that I am looking for in a phone.
>>
That's why you get a case for your phone. I don't know why people don't do this. A cracked screen is several hundred to replace. A screen protector can be $20.
>>
Nokia 130 serves me well, the only issue is I'm going the other direction and gettting into phablets.
It's the current year and I need maps and mail on the go.
>>
I would also like to inquire about feature phones.

I'd like one that:
>Supports custom MP3 ringtones
>Can be used as media player
>Japanese and English input/output (all other languages optional)
>Supports micro-SD up to 16 or 32GB
>Has mad battery

>>Finally, must work on Verizon<<
>>
>>54574565
should also have a decent camera, like 3+ megapixels.

This is actually legitimately true, with the access to information smartphones or any handheld device that is capable of accessing internet gives - at this point memorizing facts in various areas is done just to impress people, usually group of friends.

What's actually useful is constantly challenging yourself and learning how to filter out and find good information - also how to be more efficient and absorb less redundant information. This skillset would still be useful even if the internet infrastructure suddenly disappears, electricity and so on. It requires discipline tho, but that's a plus for you in every field of life.

>>
>>54574565

get yourself a decent GSM carrier and your dumbphone availability pool increases by a lot.

>>
Well, I have a Caterpillar B100 and I love it. It has the problems that >>54574154 mentioned, but then I'm not married to my text message history and the occasional purge is probably for the best. The only bad thing to say about the B100 is that all its ringtones are themed around construction, so you can choose from such options as "horn relentlessly honking" and "construction vehicle backing up beep" and "circular saw through wood." But if it ever flies across the room into a wall, I can safely think "not a problem, it was just the indestructible phone."

I'll answer the more important question, which is, what service should you get for the B100? I'm using Ultra Mobile which offers a $19/mo dumbphone plan. They're on the T-Mobile network, which is a bit spotty where I live, but it beats having a smartphone.

>>54575061
I... I have...

I've been looking using all different keywords and filters, but as soon as I throw in the word "Japanese", Amazon doesn't show phones anymore, mostly phone accessories, or smartphones instead of feature phones.

It can't possibly be that this is a tall order. And I'm sure there's SOME phone that does it; it can't be exclusively reserved for non-Verizon carriers
>>
>>54578288
Seriosuly, though, there is no combination I can find of
+feature +phone +Verizon +Japanese +input -smartphone
that gives me what I need.

I need a 10-key feature phone that can input kana directly.

>>
>>54573484
How do smartphones make you stupid exactly? You have access to a plethora of information at the touch of a button.
>>
>>54578476

how does a smartphone make you stupid?
>>
>>54580531
It doesn't, which is what I was trying to explain to you. It can if you mindlessly absorb stupid media
>>
>>54574854
Yes, because all a smartphone does is access to wikipedia and google, right?

Doesn't serve as a free GPS everywhere in the world with routing.

It doesn't allow you to communicate with ease, receive and send emails easily, have a compass, flashlight, level, unit converter, etc.

Don't play it off like depriving yourself of technology is some manly thing. It's what hipsters do to appear fresh.

Tossed it on the ground regularly with no reserve, dropped it off forty foot cliff while climbing. Lasted me till my upgrade, now my brother uses it, was like new out of the case. Have a GS6 now, same style otter box. Regularly throw it around, and toss it on the ground at the crag. Fell off my car roof at 50 mph, not a scratch on it.

I know the feels bro. My Xperia Z3 broke in the first 12 hours of owning it. My Note 5 broke the first time I dropped it a few feet (it was in a case). ...Even if I didn't drop it, it'd be having other problems by now any way. My mom and sister's Note 5s both have a mind of their own and seem to work when they want to. Unacceptable for $800 devices.

Pic related is what I've been using since my note 5 broke cause I don't want to dish-out $800+ for a device that'll break days later. Might as well flush the money down the toilet. This thing is a tank. I'm not use to the shape/flipping so I've dropped it many times and still works fine. A crappy 100% working phone is infinitely better than a broken 0% working phone, no matter how fancy. Even if you manage to break this modern day equivalent of nokia, it's only $50 new.

>All that fancy stuff is useless if the phone is broke.
imo it's more that you very rarely actually do productive things with the smart features
you get to toy with something while waiting for transport or when on the shitter and in exchange you have to drop a whole lot of money and you have to charge it every 24 hours (letting it be at 50% bettery means it will die)
In theory a smart phone can do almost anything (productive), but in practice when you what to do those things (not in transit or shitting) you have acces to superior machines to do it on (your laptop, tablet, desktop, a piece of paper).
There are a few fringe cases like GPS, but besides that you activly have to come up with ways to be productive with a smart phone because there are no actual naturally (productivity) needs it fulfills.

I rather have a e-reader.

The cheap feature phones that I've had my hands on rarely feel that good in my experience. They can lack some basic features like MMS, or just have cheap nasty buttons that feel horrible to type on.

I think an old phone is better. Won't be getting the same battery life, but a high end phone from early 00s will probably feel much better than cheap feature phones today.

Doro phones feel ok, but they're kinda grandpa tier. But not everyone care about that tho.

You have it backwards. Smartphones reduce and actively inhibit that discipline and ability to filter information you were talking about.

I have been considering getting one of these to discourage me from spending time looking at my phone, and for the external perception of responsibility while using it. Same reason I use a stylus when I'm in a public setting and on my phone; people assume taking notes or writing emails instead of shitposting on 4chan

I don't think that's going to keep you from shitposting on 4chins. That keyboard makes it the perfect comfy shitposting machine. It can eve run Clover.

How fucking retarded do you have to be to continually be breaking your phone? Do you have 1 arm and 3 fingers? Do you have Parkinsons? I have owned 4 smartphones and each lasted me about 3 years without a single crack and most of them I didn't even use a case.

Ex-Nokias and Blackberries are still tough.

Currently have a Lumia 640 and a Blackberry Classic. Clearly not as tough as an actual feature phone, but they've seen some shit and still run strong. Also Windows Phone is a stable, reliable, no bullshit OS, base apps are god tier, has all the most common and functional apps, clearly the most featurephone grade OS right now.
