If you had to choose right now ¿?

Platform 5820K + 175 €

6700K platform -175 €

(GENERAL USE , INTERNET , GAMING , PROGRAMMING , VIRTUAL MACHINES)

I might be tempted to go with the 6700k to get an m.2 ssd on z170 (Samsung 950) for muh numbers. Other than that you should still avoid the other one like the plague until after computex.

>>54545808
X99a with the 5820k supports DDR4 and M.2 SSDs just like Z170

I have one so I would know.

For gaming it will make no difference for CURRENT games, DX12 and Vulcan could change this over the next few years depending how they treat 6 and 8 core CPUs.

For general use and internet, also no difference. In fact you could get away with the I5-6600k and not even notice.

For programming and VMs, the 5820k is just inherently going to crush the 6700k, two more cores and 4 more threads with double the L3 cache. Hard for the 6700k to keep up.

If you do a lot of parallelized work, or a lot of work in multiple VMs, the 5820k is your friend.
If you mainly do gaming and internet and regular computer stuff, even the 6700k is overkill and the 6600k would make more sense.

Did you manage to make the m.2 ssd your boot drive? For some reason I got it in my head you have to go with z170 for that.
>>
>>54546063
I paid $320 for my i7-5820k.

The only reason to get the 5960x is if you NEED the 8 cores instead of 6 cores, otherwise get the 5820k.

>>54546080
Yup, the only thing Z170 lets you do that X99a can't do is RAID two M.2 drives together.

But who the fuck needs RAID M.2 drives anyway?

What RAM do you have my friend¿?¿

What CPU Cooler?

I actually have 4x8GB DDR4 Gskill 3200mhz CL16. One of the DIMMs got fucked up tho and wont POST when I have it installed so I am RMAing it and waiting for it right now.
So I have it set up in triple channel mode right now for 3x8GB. But I have it underclocked just because no point trying to get it stable at 3x8GB when I am going to have 4x8GB in another week or two.

Corsair H110i GTX with Thermaltake Riing 14 series fans on it so it runs quieter than the stock fans.
>>
>>54545757
If I wanted an ITX system, then 6700K just because a lot of the benefits of X99 are lost by going that small.
Any other form-factor I'd go 5820K, but since Broadwell-E is imminent (the server chips are already out), I would wait a bit.

Nice PC my friend. So Jealous hahaha
I hope i Will go for the 5820K + 16Gb DDR4-2400

About the HD , I will use my actual Samsung SSD 820.

I have not decided the case yet , and about CPU cooler; I thought the Noctua D15

It's a generation new AND it's clocked higher, 5-10% performance per clock is gained by the generational difference. The other % is from the i5 being clocked higher.

The i7-5820k OC's to 4.4Ghz+ however (I know the i5 does as well), and since it has 2 more cores and 8 more threads than the i5, in ANYTHING that is multithreaded the i7 pulls ahead by a large margin.

As has already been said several times, for basic web use and gaming the i5 is a MUCH better price for performance. However for VMs, encoding, rendering, etc. the 5820k ass fucks the i5.

5820k is better for VM I have one at 4.7Ghz with 32gb of 2800 evga ddr4 ram.
I make a ram disk toss the VM file on the ram disk and it'd the god damn fastest thing you have ever seen. I haven't looked into it but I think the quad Channel memory makes the ram disk much faster.

:O :O

4.7Ghz? What CPU Cooler ¿? Temperatures¿?¿

So hard to overclock this CPU up to 4.7Ghz?
>>
>>54547455
Well your memory bandwidth with quad channel is much higher. I get ~61,000Mb/s bandwidth on my 3200mhz 32GB DDR4 w/ 5820k. So yeah it can be much much faster, the 6700k gets ~42,000Mb/s at the same 3200mhz DDR4 speeds.

Temps are ambient at idle and 76c to 82c while video encoding and F@H. I have seen 92c on some benchmark tests but it never throttles so I guess it's right at tjmax. I was wanting to delid it and see if it can hit 5gz but I'll wait till I potentially replace the system with ZEN

>>
>>54548102
true, you might be able to hit 5Ghz then, but 1.54v is already pretty high. I only need 1.31v to hit 4.4ghz. Guess it really needs a lot more voltage past 4.5ghz.
