VLC is the best. Don't listen to people saying otherwise.

There are better alternatives depending on your needs and preferences, if you have none than it's fine.. It's free and easy to use with plenty of neat features you might want to explore with time.

Yes, it works fine.

If your player doesn't have HW acceleration then it might degrade the quality, but that is true for any player (just enable HW acceleration)

Plus, vlc handles way more formats than other players

Honestly I have better things to do then trying to figure out what player gives me the absolute best quality when I play shitty dvd rips or compressed music anyway. I just don't give enough fuck about the medium to care about delivery. Additionally VLC is good anyway.

Except that ugly interface and hideous icon, it's fine.
