I want to better the preformance of my players. I care less about the image quality and more about the smoothness of the playback. What should i do?

would using a hardware decoder speed up the video? I don't think it will. same with algorithems for software interlacing. if the colors left untouched, would the vid run faster? it should but, would the screen itself slow it down when recieving colors it doesn't know about? i have no idea where to start about the threads, so i guess ill leave it at auto, but more or less? surely, more can speed up the vid, but only if my pc is up to the task... which i probably isn't. what about the output formats? should i check the unchecked boxs? should i uncheck all boxes? why does i matter? what does it do?
please help, if only by telling me where would be a good place to look for help...

well first of all, if youre actually using xp, you should update to windows 10.

uninstall everything you did and just use a codec pack to install madvr like KCP.

i don't think my computer can handle modern OS

well i downloaded it, uninstalled everything and... it appers i cant install it on xp.
