This isn't a problem on the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

Hate to break it to you, but an Apple MacBook with Meme Display is a piece of hardware which does not in any way dictate what software you can run on it. True it comes preinstalled with OSX but you can install any OS you desire. With that logic you should leave everything you touch on it's default values. That logic is AGAIN flawed because the 7zip application is available for many operating systems and there are most likely vulnerabilities in those as well (pic related).
>>
>>54519354
That piece of shit has worse problems, like people thinking you're a homo for owning one

I wish I knew what it felt like to be so free, as in freedom.
>>
What do is use now? WinZip?
>>
How do I update my 7-zip?
>>
>>54520005
Give us some theoretical examples of why closed source non-free software is inherently better than an again theoretical counterpart.

>>54520080
again theoretically open source/ free (as in freedom) equivalent counterpart.
>>

>not using tar

did you faggots not even read the thing? just update to the latest version, why do you think this was even published like this?
>>
>>54520099
Amen brother
>>
>>54520080
companies that produce closed source software can literally look into the code of open-source products, copy the general idea, bring it into their own software and improve it on top of the concealed code they already have. Therefore open source will always be behind.
>>
Do I still avoid downloading from sourceforge?
>>
>>54518894
Vulnerabilities... for what? Hacker attack?

What exactly says they're not gonna fix them in the next update?
>>
>>54520128
Also closed source software has people motivated by money to produce good code. If they do not produce good code, then the programmers will be fired and have to start scrubbing toilets. Free software contributors on the other hand are writing code at night after their day job scrubbing toilets.

How is keeping technological advancement proprietary a good thing for the human race?

This literally never happens.

>>54520099
>2016

>>

...Meaning they are writing code usually out of passion and not desire for money, thus it should be more inspired as opposed to simply writing code for the tedium of a 9-5

Vulnerabilities for remote code execution exploitable in the mainframe of your cpu fuction calls in the main kernel threads
>>

But it could. That's the point, theoretically of course.

how do you know?
>>
>>54520128

>>54520165
How is this better than someone simply looking at open source software and making the same improvements in a peer reviewed open source environment for the good of everyone?

I thought Gentoo was safe...
>>
>>54520179
but I'd have to get infected first for the malicious code to actually be able to infect me further
>>
>>54520180
That's the most retarded shit. It doesn't happen, so who gives a fuck?

Besides, the person who wrote this clearly has no fucking idea how coding works. Basic structure and way of operation of your software must be pretty much the same for any code to be interchangeable with code from open-source program, and that is highly unlikely - or requires your code to be exact rewrite of the open-source program, which locks your release schedule to said open source program so their code will remain compatible (and then you pray noone will notice and sue you for violating GPL).

And even then, you don't get benefits of open-source system like faster crowdsourced bugfixes.

If you really want to use code from open source stuff, it's much easier to just make open source software.

for the same reason that people make movies and sell them

people who are paid to do something are generally better at it because they depend on their skill to survive. talented people want to get paid to work. this is just the way the world is.

Now that 7-zip is kill and windows still can't extract certain file formats what do I use now?

Because companies that make software are bunch of half-braindead mismanaged idiots, and if anyone used to do anything like that, it would leak the moment any employee would get pissy or fired. So far, it didn't, so it didn't happen.

I mean, shit, NSA's bullshit went under because of a single Snowden, you think some bunch of idiots like Adobe or Microsoft could keep ANY secret under wraps? Get real.

"L'art pour l'art" (art for art's sake) there is a philosophical principle that states art can only exist if it is distant from utilitarianism.

so it doesn't work unless i use it with a DVD?
Thanks NSA dick sucker Cisco faggots.
>>
>>54520335
To exist is to change, when we stop evolving we kill any hope of becoming better than we are now, which isn't great. We are a type 0 civilization with just enough scientific knowledge to kill everything on earth but we aren't planetary yet.

On the contrary, although the arguement could be made I personally belive programming is utilitarian in nature and thus incapable of becoming true art. it was on this fag >>54520240

Hey retard it literally says version 16.0 fixes this
>>
>>54520466

Yup:

UDF Issue (CVE-2016-2335):
Fix Version: 16.00
Vulnerable versions: 9.20 (confirmed) through 15.14
Also, versions 4.59 beta and later might be affected, as the UDF support had been introduced with that version (according to the change history at: http://www.7-zip.org/history.txt)

HFS Issue (CVE-2016-2334):
Fix Version: 16.00
Vulnerable versions: 9.32 (assumed) through 15.14
HFS support is available since version 4.59 beta. However, version 9.20 still does not include the vulnerable code, so I assume that the vulnerability had been introduced with 9.32 (according to the change history at: http://www.7-zip.org/history.txt, which says: "... HFS, ... support was improved.")
