Here's a (you) for (you).
It makes your screen dimmer at night. It doesn't cure cancer, but it objectively dims your screen at night.

No, there are several studies showing that blue light produces more stress on the eyes and prevents sleeping.
I guess it's only effective if you spend A LOT of time in front of your computer.

It's a scientific fact that blue light wakes you up.

Remove blue to sleep better

It does dim the screen. Useful for late night browsing in the dark.
A better question is why the fuck don't monitors support backlight dimming from the OS like laptops?
>>
>>54469077
A friend had it and he just had to put some drops on his eyes for some time and it disappeared. You should go to a doctor to check your eyes.

Free as in freedom version for people who aren't cucks.

It's the equivalent of flux for Linux. Needs a better GUI, but it works fine.

No you retard it's objective fact that the human eye has receptors sensitive to blue light which inhibit sleep-inducing chemicals. Removing blue light helps your body relax at night. Try using something like flux for a few days and then turn it off at 11pm, your eyes will literally be in pain, like looking at the sun.

I'm using it for years, I'm not bothered by the yellow light anymore at night.
A few days ago at night my eyes were hurting me so I check and see f.lux was off I turned it on again and the pain flew away. I don't think it's a meme atleast for me
>>
I use it when I'm reading a book on my phone at night, but having f.lux shift my whole screen red at like 7PM is obnoxious
>>
>>54468944
It took me a while to get used to but I can't browse at night without it anymore.

It's significantly less stress on my eyes at night.
I can browse till the morning and my eyes won't be tired.

Though I still turn it off for movies and TV shows because it fucks with the color too much.

Twilight/LiveDisplay for my android phone
meme glasses for everything else (pic related)
>>
>>54469506
Im not even a linux tard and i consider redshift way better than f.lux.
It works better than f.lux (imo), while being way lighter in resources and having more customizable options.
Anyways, if you are on windows id recommend to use RedshiftGUI instead, its based off an old release but it works.
>>
OP I honestly can't tell.

Been using it for a few months now and as far as I can tell, it doesn't help me fall asleep any easier.

It mostly just annoys the shit out of me because of how orange everything is.

I only use dark themes for everything but it doesn't physically hurt me to use white ones. I just feel like it's more straining to my eyes. Android's menus are the bane of my existence, I want ICS dark menus back.

I'm glad I'm stuck with ICS; I've seen all those white menus, it's horrible.

Because blue light helps you focus. Red light at night so you don't fuck up melatonin production so you keep your sleep cycle normal.

Does anyone use the extended range and like it? I don't feel like restarting my computer to see for myself.

How expensive would it be for the filthy monitor manufacturers to slap on a couple lux sensors on their screens like smartphones have had for ages?

Auto brightness and colour composition management based on surrounding light to deliver relatively true color should be a thing on every screen on the planet by now.

Apple does this. Software like mpv can even use it to auto-adjust the gamma.
>>
>>54474117
>How expensive would it be for the filthy monitor manufacturers to slap on a couple lux sensors on their screens like smartphones have had for ages?
they all have webcams less than an inch from the screen, which should be sufficient
>>
>>54474117
>Auto brightness
Literally the only reason it's due to software and them being jews, but you can get something to do this with any screen on *nix
http://www.hughski.com/colorhugals.html
>and colour composition management
That's quite more expensive, an accurate sensor isn't cheap

The main reason why it isn't implemented it's that you can easily change the brightness with the keyboard, and you hardly ever need to change it in a desktop, since it remains in the same place always, also power savings are minimal unlike with phones

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosensitive_ganglion_cell

>They play a major role in synchronizing circadian rhythms to the 24-hour light/dark cycle, providing primarily length-of-day and length-of night information. They send light information via the retinohypothalamic tract (RHT) directly to the circadian pacemaker of the brain, the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus. The physiological properties of these ganglion cells match known properties of the daily light entrainment (synchronization) mechanism regulating circadian rhythms.
>The photopigment of photoreceptive ganglion cells, melanopsin, is excited by light mainly in the blue portion of the visible spectrum (absorption peaks at ~480 nanometers[5]).
