8.35 an hour manual laborer reporting in.

halfway done with my associate's degree in IT, am thinking of getting a bachelor's in business administration because I don't care about anything, and it seems that is the go to degree for such people.

Can I make 35k a year for sitting in an office "supervising" people with a bachelor's in business admin?

I just want a job that I don't have to care about, so I can go home and whack off and play video games, while being able to support myself independently.

I guess. But bear in mind I'm only 22, so I'm hardly all that experienced.
If you're looking to get into the programming side instead of something like databases or general system engineering, make sure you have decent programming projects to do in your spare time. Make some contributions to a FOSS project or, if you aren't knowledgeable enough to do so, read some books and work on your own stuff to fix that problem. Make a plugin for a popular program, work on some typical computer science problems, implement some data structure you've heard a lot about.
I'm going the plugin route myself now that I just lost my job.
>>
>>54471725
i wrote a bunch of plugins for some software during my time at work. i am worried all or some of the code i wrote during my "free time" will actually need to be transferred in ownership to my employer...gah.

I know this is hard for your underage mind to comprehend, but different areas of the US, let alone the world, have vastly different costs of living. You could be making 60k in a place like Utah and in order to get the same standard of living in San Francisco you'd need to be making 110k+.

This thread is sad as fuck lol

If you can't get into embedded, robotics, industrial automation, or anything else where programming is merely a means to a tangible and useful end, don't bother.

If you're another userspace/web shitter remaking the same functionality with more bloat and tracking you might as well go work in a meat processing plant where your time will be used for something that genuinely benefits humanity

The only programmers who barely get a pass on the "surviving the day of the rope" index are those who make applications solely for internal use by businesses or meta-tools that important professionals rely on.

This is most certainly a lie and a shopped image , not only does visa Inc on glass door not represent the salary stated by anon but on a fundamental level the average for a QA is between 30,000 to 50, 000 according to pay scale.

With visa the size as it is it doesn't need to pay excess for its employers, ESPECIALLY not for a graduate - it makes no sense for the salary allocation to be 50% higher for a rather entry level role for a multinational.

I make a little over half that. Travel is probably more glamorous in the EU, in the US it's more an excuse to save up tons of hotel/rental car points and air miles.

If you're young and single you'll save a shitload on utilities (heating/cooling with a programmable thermostat) and food though. And alcohol consumed with meals can be expensed.

>>54485338
Online comments for SAP stuff is largely filled with people from India. There are also a large number of people from India involved. Once you get to people who are actually hired for onsite work, regardless of race, color, or creed, most people tend to be good, but online, for random tutorials and sites - tons of Indians.

if your goal is to consult and make bank and travel you should also look into healthcare companies using Epic systems. Report development is a good way to get your foot in the door for a big healthcare company and you really only need to be good with SQL to do that. Companies have to ship off employees to Wisconsin to train (I have 4 certifications and it's only been a year). The knowledge is really specialized for each application within Epic and consultants with some experience seem to always be in high demand

Epic is bizarre. I interviewed with them in college. They recruit in jeans and tshirts and apparently that is how they operate at the HQ. I did hear pay is good though.

when I've gone up there for training everybody is in a t-shirt and jeans, which is unusual because healthcare for the most part is pretty stuffy. Their campus is really neat as well. Every building has a theme to it (medieval, space, etc) and there's cool artwork all over the place. From what I hear they tend to work their people really hard but, yeah, the pay is great.

It's okay, but have to deal with shit mass punishments for the smallest shit. Been in long enough that they don't really put me to work anymore and just have me supervise or just fuck off.

Been in for 4 years, but don't want to stay in and not passionate about working on aircraft to keep doing it after I get out. Gonna use my last year in to start doing school online and get some general ed knocked out. Not exactly sure what I want to study though. Browsing /g/ for a long time has made me interested in programming, but I've never actually tried it and scarred it's to late for me. Want to be full time student though at a local school since the GI bill will pay me BAH, but i'd probably just live with my parents for a bit to maximize money.

It's stressful as hell. I have to deal with screaming office workers all day and people that cuss at you because you don't know their proprietary software inside out. I'm too scared to just quit because I know I'll never find another job.

Fuck it, it pays the bills, and I like machines. If only I didn't have to deal with cuckfags who run the dealership, Id be happy. But shadetreeing in the ghetto is like running through a field of dicks to get some nasty pussy, no thanks.

Get a solid job you can do freelance in your early 20s, live like you need more hours at McDonalds, go into soft retirement in your early 30s.

Then you set your own hours and spend your time on whatever you want. It's great if you value time heavily over money. If amassing fast stacks and extravagance is what gets you off, feel free to go a different path.
