Hey guys I need a recommendation for a C or C++ book for a kid. My wife's son is about 13 right now, and lately he been showing interest in cs. You guys know any good intro books for someone his age?

code. it's literally written for a child
Another step-father on /g/?
My stepson likes Minecraft more than is humanly healthy so I tried to ease him into programming by giving him K&R for his 14th birthday. I'm not sure if he's even opened it yet.
I really want to limit his gaming time so he'll focus on what's important but his mother doesn't seem to care.

I wouldn't try to limit him, its never works. How about you try to make some minrcraft scripts/plug-ins instead? He will be interested in that, and that could lead a path to other programming
I think Visual Basic, PHP, or Java might be easier for the kid tho. Even C#.

Look into the "head first" books, I had one in college for an intro to OOP course and it handled the material well for beginners imo
