I've owned almost exclusively EVGA Nvidia GPUs and Intel CPUs but I'm gonna move to AMD for the greater good next time I upgrade.
If you look at the driver situation on GNU you get an idea of how much the companies actually care.

there's also stuff like g-sync versus freesync.. freesync is free and open of course, but g-sync is not. Nvidia is generally worse and almost everyone, myself included, fall for their tricks time and time again. Maybe this is too harsh, but I'd say they are the Windows of the hardware world.
