What do you do with older machines?
I have an AMD E-350 laptop sitting around that draws very little power (like 6 watts at idle)
it's only purpose has been to try new software before I put on on my main machine, problem is some software fucks it up and its slow to reload everything when this happens

Hoard them and occasionally take photos of them for /g/ to see.

Throw them the fuck out.

after a year max out ram, after 3 years add new GPU. After 5 give away to retard family member or sell to other retard.
Install Ganoo/Loonix on them and then forget about them for ~6 months and then install another distro. Rinse & Repeat.

I have 3 PC's ~6 years old and I am now turning them into a linux cluster
Put Gentoo on it and turn it into a seedbox.

Sounds cool. Interested to know how it turns out.

Once I get it going I plan on making a thread here

I'm really interested in super/distributed computing, I already had my workstation and media station synced (except for OS they share an hdd)

My 486 broke, anyone got a spare?

I sell all of my old electronics to latinamericans.
You'd be amazed how expensive technology, even old one, is there.

Isn't there some program to restore a bit-by-bit copy of a previous O/S state?

noice
An E-350 AMD lappy how big? 11.6"? If so make it to a xfce linux box and use it!

Stuff. I experiment, rebuild, program or whatever. Still does the same shit it did before. Old stuff is a great way to learn and appreciate technology, plus it lets you explore the overpriced high end for next to nothing.
