Adwcleaner first, something might be hijacking your browser homepage.

Desktop threads were used for loliposting and lewposting so mods banned them, and now shitposters are angry and shitposting.

my pc restarted while I was in a game and now the GPU won't work. It gets recognized by pc but at the device manager it says that windows stopped this device because it has reported problems. Is the card burned? I reinstalled drivers several times and still nothing, also there are blue lines of pixels in the screen like the matrix
>>
>>54436740
Probably too busy with the current CP spammer on /tv/.
>>
>>54436756
Its probably kill, but it shouldn't die that fast.
Remove and plug in the card again, then check for temperatures.

Which GPU is it? does speccy still detect it?
>>
how do i apply thermal paste?
>>
>>54436792
its brand new gtx 950, why would it just burn so fast I've been using it like 3 months.

I already unplugged the card and shut all electricity on pc and retried and still nothing.
It gets recognized by the pc and it automatically puts the model drivers on but its like disabled.
Also aside from the broken pixels the screen still works and its connected on the card
>>
>>54436827
http://www.arcticsilver.com/intel_application_method.html

http://www.arcticsilver.com/amd_application_method.html

I've found their instructions to be the clearest but applicable to any thermal compound, not just AS5
>>
>>54436827
Apply a small dot in the middle.
Thats it.

Remember to dont touch the CPU while doing it with your hands/fingers/something/etc.
If it had paste before remember to clean it.
Remember to dont move the HSF when you press it down and screw the opposite screw while doing it.
>>
>>54436849
If you can, RMA it, just bad luck i guess.
>>
>>54436858
>Apply a small dot in the middle.
>Thats it.

this will get you OK steady state performance but a long burn-in period, and "small dot" isn't really precise.

for most multicore dies you instead want to use a small LINE rather than a dot, oriented in the direction of the cores. You also want to tin/fog both surfaces with a small amount (rubbed on with a coffee filter) to reduce burn-in time
>>
>>54436896
Meanwhile the Line method works, the rest of this post is bait.
>>
>>54436920
>the rest of this post is bait.

no, it's taken from the official document... they even recommend a coffee filter because its the most common lint-free cloth in a typical home

this is not my first rodeo anon
>>
>>54436896
line method is not as efficient as you think. For the best performance of cpu you need to use a pin and dip it in thermal paste and apply small dots to correspond the cpu pins. Depending on your cpu you would need to make different amount of dots , for my AMD it needed 939 dots
>>
>>54436896
>>54436968
>for most multicore dies you instead want to use a small LINE rather than a dot,

It doesnt matter, it will spread evenly once you press it down.
>>

>>
>>54437029
You have a high end videocard right now?
Yes, wait for the Ti version.

You dont have a GPU/low end? get the GTX 1080, it will be perfect for 1440p, but will work for 4K.
Just wait for some good reviews once its out.
>>
>>54436853
The fuck?
Point of thermal paste is to transfer heat to the copper then its blow away with your fan

Not putting a covering amount of paste is retarded.
How are you going to transfer heat if you have little coverage of paste?

>thread about to devolve into thermal paste skubwars

I got a new computer with a new graphics card recently, and although the graphics card is seated all the way into its PCI Express slot (I'm sure) and it's properly connected to the power supply (I'm sure) it still doesn't turn on when the computer is turned on. None of the fans spin and it's not recognized in the device manager. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?
>>
>>54437065
>Point of thermal paste is to transfer heat to the copper then its blow away with your fan
No.

Point of thermal paste is to fill in the tiny gaps between what are ideally two perfectly-flat pieces of material, but in reality subject to grinding tolerances.

Direct aluminum-to-copper heat transfer is much better than aluminum-to-compound-to-copper, regardless of what's in that tube of compound. However, on the micro-scale, 100% of the surface area of these materials is not actually in contact - hence compound.

Ideally there would only be thermal paste in the tiny air gaps which remain when the two surfaces are pressed together to contact. Generally this is not the case because

1: it doesn't have zero viscosity
2: you can't push them together hard enough

How do I get it so that when I open to this page, my cursor is already clicked into the search bar? so that I can open up a new tab and start typing immediately into the search bar.

My power supply only came with one VGA cord, which is what's plugged into the card in the picture. It has the 8-pin connector that's plugged in there, and then it branches off into a 6-pin connector that's not currently plugged into anything. I think it's for hooking up a second graphics card.

The card in my system is:

The power supply is an EVGA Supernova 650 G2.

Now this is the part where I complete my transformation into a raging winged faggot. I turned around to look at the box to check what the PSU is, and in it I saw a cord labelled VGA exactly like what's in my computer right now staring back at me like a snake waiting to bite someone. So yeah, I just didn't have it plugged in all the way. Lesson learned.

Thanks for helping me out anyways though. All I have in return for your patience is some reading material.

I just took this tech class with this terrible professor and I went through blackboard and tried to email a few students directly to see what their opinion of the course was before I decided to contact the Dean - just to make sure that I wasn't the one with the problem. I honestly want my fucking money back for this class.

Well, turns out Blackboard sends that email to EVERYONE in the class including the professors. I still have another 1-2 years of classes to take where I might end up with him as my instructor. I fucked myself big time, kind of shitting my pants right now.

Anyone had experience dealing with terrible professors? Advice?

>not just meeting them in person before/during/after
You might want to just own it at this point. Write up a letter of grievances, get some other students in on it, and take it to the Dean like you were planning to. If you were in a lecture with 50+ students you're probably lost in the crowd despite your impressive negligence. If not, roll in to your next class like you own the place and work twice as hard.

Heya /g/, I recently had to get a new phone after my old ones screen got smashed (usable, but, broken glass etc etc) and I ran into a problem with the new phone I haven't had since I got my first android phone years ago.
I have web access, but until just a moment ago, when a friend was asking me "hows that look?" I didn't realise I was not able to send or receive MMS.
I spent about 30 minutes looking up, trying new APN settings and restarting my phone, and nothing worked, but I installed a few texting apps just cause some have their own settings.
Textra is the only one I've found that allowed me to send and receive MMS (with the settings claiming "textra automatically determined your APN settings.") and was wondering if I could somehow find what it set them to?

My computer froze while playing a game and on restarting I lost my internet connection. Device manager doesn't find my network adapter, and while trying to reinstall the drivers I get the error "the realtek network controller was not found. if deep sleep mode is enabled please plug the cable". The solution for which being to go into device manager and fiddling with the settings. But since I can't find it there it's a no go. The onboard LAN is enabled in BIOS. Is there anything else I can do now, or should I just assume the onboard device is fried and get myself an external one?

I need a linux terminal emulator recommendation.

Currently using tilda. I want two individual consoles side-by-side with transparency and custom backgrounds.

what is

in
int arr[arraySize];
actually doing? By putting 8 in there I expected the program to fail if I inputed a number higher than 255 (because it would take more than 8 elements), but it actually works until 1023.

// Converts integer to binary
#include <stdio.h>

int main(){
int num,arr[8],i,j;

printf("Enter an integer: ");
scanf("%d",&num);

j = num;

for(i=0;j!=0;i++){
arr[i]=j%2;
j=j/2;
}
for(i--;i>=0;i--){
printf("%d ",arr[i]);
}
return 0;

1000 in binary is 1 1 1 1 1 0 1 0 0 0 (10 elements used) and works perfectly.

Doing a simple

Building a new PC, going to be sporting a GTX 1080 of course.

What's the best for sexy dual monitor setups? I was thinking of going with two 25" 2560x1440 monitors, I'm sure the 1080 could handle that just fine, especially because one will just mostly be for light work. Or should I go for two 1080p monitors? Or am I better off going with one 4K monitor? Or a mixture of any of the above?

I'm leaning towards two 1440p monitors but I'm kind of scared I won't use all the screen realestate. Might just start off with one and see how I go from there. But then I think am I just better off getting a 4K monitor then, argghhh

Because 1023 fits into 9 bits and when you going out of range cycle hits num variable because with this declaration it ususaly allocated right after the array (it allocated in stack and therefore backwards). Thats why there is no error in that case.

>>
>>54443944
you should get an IPS or maybe PLS or something like that if they exist, i wouldn't recommend a TN monitor at all. ideally you'd want 120+ hz but i don't think they have them with IPS, and yes definitely get one with g-sync

personally i'd wait and see if the new projection stuff* with the gtx 1080 becomes widely supported before i'd get a curved monitor

if you'll be using the monitor for work i think you could use the vertical space so then i'd rather not get an ultrawide monitor

this one is 4k IPS g-sync, 60 hz i think

If you want 34" UW with G-Sync, you better have a spare $1200 laying around. They're also plagued with problems because the panels are not native 100Hz. They overclock them and some handle it better than others.

For standard 60Hz monitors the aforementioned Dell is reasonable choice. Here's a review

I have noticed something with Lithium rechargeable batteries around me.

>electric shaver is plugged in for ages without depleting the battery
>take it out and turn it on
>battery almost immediately drops to empty
>plug it back in to charge for a bit and battery is fine

>laptop is plugged in for ages without running on battery power
>unplug it from power and try to use battery power
>battery almost immediately drops to 10% left
>plug it back in to charge back to 100% and it is fine

Is there some bug in Lithium batteries that causes them to discharge while plugged in and then thinking they are still fully charged when not? It seems like a very odd coincidence that the same thing happened to two devices around the same time.

here's a pretty good explanation of the issue with curved displays

https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/221682-the-flawed-math-behind-curved-monitors/

games typically only support standard rectilinear projection, so it can look really distorted especially with a wide field of view and on non-flat displays, but if you can adjust the projection to account for the curve of the display, then it could be really nice to have a curved display

My problem:

Too many 2.4G networks around me, interference on all channels, speed is awful. 5G is fine, but not all my devices support it. I don't want to have to buy adapters for everything.

My solution:

Buy a 2.4/5g router, use it in bridge mode connected to main router 5g wireless, connect 2.4g devices through ethernet.

Any reason this won't work like I think it will? I basically want to use a router in bridge mode as a big 5Ghz adapter to get my older devices off of 2.4G.
