Who /775/ here? just ordered a q6600 to install on an older motherboard. Anyone have any experience ocing this little fucker?
I pushed my core 2 to the absolute limit by ocing the shit out if it. It gave me a 12% boost in performance after a 40% clock boost.
Was a pretty big waste of time and money ($30 cooler)

I had a Q6600 build going until a few months ago, I haven't touched it since my upgrade.
Q6600 and 8GB DDR2 just sitting in the corner of my room unused for the past 2 months.
I'm stuffing a mini atx board with an e8400 into an old ibm aptiva. I want to make a hackintosh out of it... hopefully.

I also got another machine with a xeon e5450. The cooler was meant for a low end core 2 though so the poor bastard idles at 60 degrees.
Q6600 master race here, still have it from 2007, running at 2.4 but apparently it can go to 3 or 3.2 if you're lucky. It just werks

Helpful friend build a gayming pc in exchange for his old pc (He doesn't want it afterwards anyway).
Gonna swap out pentium 4 with core duo and take 2 gb of ddr2 ram and throw it into a pc I set up for basic needs for my parents (it's running mint).
this is my old main, i gave him a C2Q for it's retirement, cashed with the old 560ti at zero expenses, actually i got some profit in the trade.

Q8300. Just got this + board a week ago because it was cheap. Doesn't oc for shit though, Just found out about the pcie method though
i just upgraded from my e6750 with 4gb ram and a hd4850 to pic related and it doesnt really feel that faster
only under heavy load [ps, illustrator, youtube and lots of tabs, skype, steam] do i notice a difference, probably beacuse of the ram.

i have a e7200 but for some reason my psu is kinda wonky so the 3.3v rail doesnt give me 3.3v but instead like 2.7~2.9v so if i overclock it my computer crashes

Check for domed capacitors in the PSU and if possible scope the ripple voltage with an oscilloscope.

hmm just keep an eye on it then, if your pc starts randomly locking up or whatever then I would suspect a low voltage problem.
Capacitors can dry out over time and when this happens the gasses released makes the tops bulge out, this also causes more ripple voltage as the ESR increases or the capacitance decreases. Basically the capacitor "runs out" of energy faster, too soon if the load is high enough (overclocking).
