Cuda is api and basically how many compute cores it has. Think of each Cuda core as a seprate CPU.
Thing is these new cards are clocked 2x higher than the old cards so having the same core count is not really a determiner of speed
Old fermi cuda cores could do a lot more per core than the kepler that replaced them. Kepler just had more cores to make up for it

A heavily oc 980 ti is faster than a stock titan x. A heavily oc titan x is faster than a 980 ti. The titan x has superior specs but because vendors aren't allowed to sell their own varients with custom pcb's and oc levels people buy the 980 ti instead (and because it's cheaper). The titan x isn't the most powerful gpu in the world for no reason. Titanx > 980 ti

Their own marketing materials put the 1080 at 1.4x the performance of the 1070
Still, the 1070 should be as fast as a Titan X, at least
>>
>>54419504
I meant comparing the 1070 to the 1080; that can tell you the general performance difference between the two

hmmm.... this is gonna be tempting

It isn't
>The titan x has superior specs but because vendors aren't allowed to sell their own varients with custom pcb's and oc levels people buy the 980 ti instead (and because it's cheaper).
The 980 Ti's are better binned than Titan X

It isn't, you're literally regurgitating Nvidia marketing materials

some rumors are saying the 390X will price drop to 299 at the launch of Polaris 10, and the Polaris card itself should outperform the 390X "by a significant margin in certain situations" while still being lower power and given the non-flagship slot of the 390 non X

Nvidia being shit at DX12 is not a meme, benchmarks for all the DX12 games show the 390x being the equal or outperforming the 980ti, and there's no reason to believe Pascal performs any better in DX12 because Nvidia made zero mentions to Async in today's presentation

because Polaris is being hinted at rivaling the top dog spot, not exceeding it. Sure Vega next year might trump even a 1080ti but that's a year away and will probably only be 10% faster than a 1080.

I have no hope in Zen. I currently have an AMD 8350/290x. Going to upgrade to a skylake i5 and a new case this summer and keep the 290x so long as it lasts me. I will buy a 1080 when it's around $500

Superb Craftsmanship. Increases in bandwidth and power efficiency allow the GTX 1080 to run at clock speeds never before possible -- over 1700 MHz -- while consuming only 180 watts of power. New asynchronous compute advances improve efficiency and gaming performance. And new GPU Boostâ„¢ 3 technology supports advanced overclocking functionality.

Because it's a stupid fucking question. As soon as you buy current technology it become obsolete because newer technology is right around the fucking corner.

Set a budget and what performance you'd like and go buy something.

There is never going to be some magic card that will out power new cards for 5 years. Futureproofing doesn't exist.
