Gonna upgrade from a GTX 780 to a GTX 1080 this summer, so far we know:
>25% faster than GTX 980 Ti
>8 GB of GDDR5X
>Core clock speed of up to 1.8 GHz
Will I even notice a difference in terms of gaming performance?

Probably, but it depends on what games you're playing and what resolution. Why would you not wait until it's actually out, look at the benchmarks, and decide for yourself?

I play Planetside 2 on a 1080p monitor.
With my 780 everything is currently maxed out and runs smoothly, with occassional hiccups when the battles reach 200+ people.

I think the bottleneck might be in the CPU rather than the GPU in this case. You should try asking other players.
