I know, it's my fault for buying a computer with soldered RAM chips.

Doubting right now between buying a Windows laptop or just installing on this Linux, or maybe Windows 10 which handles 4 GB fine. Apple never again.

The last OS X I used for considerable time was 10.6 and it was godly with RAM usage, CPU usage and battery life. This thing booted fast (and in a 5400rpm hdd mind you), worked fast and the battery lasted forever.

Then I had some experience with 10.7 and 10.8 and they were much heavier. They performed much slower with an HDD (I think Apple was concentrating only on SSD) and felt much heavier and slower than 10.6. 10.7 was full of bugs too.

How is it in 10.9 and 10.10. Has OS X gotten even slower, buggier and heavier?

Was 10.6 the best OS X and the best desktop OS ever?

El Capitan introduces Metal under the hood, which is bringing loads of improvements for apps that are built on that

El Cap is essentially Yosemite (fixed)
>>
>>54393357
It's not like W7 vs 10 at all. Applications tend to drop support for the older versions much faster than Windows. For example, I can only run the latest Xcode on 10.11, maybe 10.10; but on Windows, you can run the latest Visual Studio even on Windows 7. Same with MS Office, for example, and others. Also security updates for Snow Leopard stopped a while ago, and 10.9 security updates will stop this year.

>>54393402
Metal is just a graphics library, and only works for certain graphics cards. El Crapitan is still basically Yosemite and not much has been fixed besides animation speed. Metal has nothing to do with CPU and memory management, which are the most important things of a kernel i.e. an OS.
>>
>>54392384
yeah but not in-line which is annoying, also it's buggy; problems seeking, etc.
>>
>>54393455
>latest Visual Studio even on Windows 7
lolno.
>>
>>54393371
>Metal has nothing to do with CPU and memory management

Except that the whole point of Metal is that it's a Low Level API that drastically reduces the overhead of OpenGL which is what they were using previously.

So, you're kinda right, but mostly wrong.
>>
>>54393600
Nope, I'm 100% right and you should stop parroting Apple marketing materials. The only thing Metal improves is graphics performance, and has nothing to do with the kernel memory management or scheduling.

>>

10.11.4 introduced new GPU driver gizmos iirc which seem to have a lot of problems
>>
