depends, some desktop motherboards have mSATA slots, others have M.2 slots which are compatible with mSATA cards.

or as the other anon said, you can get an adapter.

Could also be bluetooth, WiMAX, 3g, LTE, etc.

Not necessarily wifi. Though I admit that picture looks to be of a regular 802.11N wifi card nothing fancy at all and it would be far cheaper to get a USB adapter.
