I might be onto a Seiko Bell-Matic.
It has a mechanical alarm function.

What can you guys can tell me about this movement? Is it reliable? Is it worth it?

My Midas vintage french watch, it's 34 mm so it fits on my tiny bitch wrists.
>>
>>54358698
As per usual with older Seikos, as long as it isn't from the Phipines,India,Malasiya,Thailand and etc it should be fine.

Though the 4006 movement is among the most complex vintage Seiko's you could find, it would take a very skilled watchmaker a lot of time to properly service the movement if it needs one.

Ideally if you can score it sub~200$ shipped it's a good deal.
>>
>>54358772
The seller is selling it together with another 4 vintage watches for 250€.
I'm trying to get it for 60€ alone.

S P E I D E L
P
E
I
D
E
L
>>
>>54361835
Yup.

Basically, it's an almost run of the mill ETA 2892-A2 modified to house their coaxial escapement instead of a regular Swiss escapement.

It offers no real advantage over their regular escapement and can only be serviced by Jewmega at their specified servicing centers, which house the surgical-like machinery needed to put the exact amount of oil over the escapement. Too little and the movement will eat itself away, too much and it won't function properly.

Somewhat of narrowed down version of the story.
>>
>>54361958
Just like the Springgu Duraibu.
>>
>>54361835
The problem with co-axial that it doesn't work. It's a time bomb set to blow up the escapement if you don't send it back for a regular service/defuse to Omega, who needed to develop special tools and procedures just so service them. Plus it offers no real advantage.

To sum it up under different conditions the Swiss lever escapement tends to work rather than not. The Jewmega co-axial is the opposite, it has very tight tolerances for manufacturing, oiling, calibrating, whatnot.
>>
>>54362013
spring drive has "improvements" over a normal escapement though.
>>
>>54362013
Somewhat.

Grorius springu draibu does offer a unique in-house movement, the 2892 isn't in-house nor is it uncommon.
>>
>>54362047
>>54362070
>>54362083

I was only referencing the kilo-buck service because of the exclusivity of the movement.

The Spring Drive is a marvel of technology in my opinion.
>>
>>54362070
Maybe, but if you look at it from the quartz end it's a lot of over-complications for a trivial improvement (true smooth sweep seconds hand).

Probably the one PRACTICAL advantage of the Spring Drive is that it's a autoquartz that works, since the power generated is stored in a mainspring instead of a shitty capacitor.

"Imperial" is traditionally used to denote extra bold and high alcohol versions of a style of beer. It originates from English brewers making high alcohol stouts to ship to the Russian Imperial court in the 1800s.

Calling a beer an "imperial red" with 4.7% alcohol is showing total ignorance of brewing convention. It would be like a random watchmaker putting "chronometer" on the dial without testing the watches.

Basically, it's pretty embarrassing really.
>>
So /wt/, I've finally convinced my girlfriend that Seiko is love, and she's planning to ditch her two fashion watches (one Michael Kors and another ungodly faux-chronograph from Target). It's now up to me to find a replacement, but the problem is I know absolutely nothing about women's watches.

Should I bother trying to get a specific girl watch, or should I just look for a Seiko 5 with a cutesy dial colour? Or is there anything else good in the 38mm and under range?

>Post the dream grails.
It's simple:

The Simplicity by Philippe Dufour.

A bit more than ten years ago, when this watch was available, I wasn't wealthy enough to order one at the proper time. Now that has become a series long delivered, examples of it -any- are really scarce and even though are reaching impossible prices always sells in a second, often before I even notice the sale.

Last one sold for a bit shy of 200k USD, just a month ago.

>but, a grail? why?

Why not? There are a lot of watches out there that I like but the Carrera is the one that I can't get out of my head because for me the design is flawless. It's minimal without compromising function and yet it's not boring. High-end watch brands are nice and all but they have such a high price that since I never will be a millionaire I am not even bothering to persue then so I can't call them a grail. Plus they are often dressy and I am a casual guy. I think the Carrera goes with pretty much every outfit.

Not the intended recipient, but i can understand that reasoning, i like to try and collect watches up to about $500 (second hand) but beyond that it is sometimes diminishing returns or hype and wank and you have to weigh up what you get for the money.
But hey if i had $10million i might have a 20k watch XD

Haven't got a case back opener, but here it is, hand one only, I've had a look and the serial number only indicates what year of the decade it was made in not the actual decade, it looks exactly the same to a few models made in the 60's but they didn't use the phrase water resistant then

I've seen a 1964 dated Citizen's with the parawater inscriptions.

Incidentally, googled what's on the caseback and seen examples like yours from the 60's. First number in the caseback was 8 so 68. Surprisingly easy famalamas.

Is there even any steel Casio terrorist at this point?

Seems they're all painted resin now. Got a 1200 because it looks great, but now the paint is starting to wear off, and it'll soon look like shit. Even those advertised as being steel actually have painted resin inserts.

I'm starting to think it'd be easier to just make my own.

These look unusually decent for women's watches. I would definitely get the left one over the right, being Asian she has really tiny wrists so even a 38mm is pushing it. Speaking of which, when the fuck did it suddenly become fashionable for women's watches to get into the 40mm and 42mm sizes? They look disgusting on feminine wrists.

>>54374273
I've actually destroyed two Seiko 5s; one was an SNX809 and one was the old 36mm predecessor. Fucked em good just going cycling on shitty, potholed city streets. I believe they both had a 7S26 Revision B. I imagine the C revision would be more reliable to begin with, and my girlfriend is not exactly outdoorsy so I imagine there would not be much opportunity to wreck the automatic movement. I'd rather get something unique (by normalfag standards) rather than just any other piece of shit quartz.
>>
>>54375991
It's not just an insert, aside from the case back and bracelet the whole thing is fucking plastic. It's a shame though, I'd definitely pay like $100 to get a steel case one, the watch is really cool looking.
>>
>>54376276
Well this one is indeed full resin, I was refering to other models which actually have some steel as part of the case.

But there are so few. I'm sure Casio would get sold out in hours if they made classic models with steel cases.

Tudor is a brand for people who want to keep up with the Joneses but can't afford Rolex. They make very nice watches that somehow completely avoid having any independent identity or style of their own. I've always found it a bit depressing.

One could argue they have a few unique designs to them, like the Heritage blue chronograph and the Heritage Ranger.

Also counting the fact that if i'm going to get a higher-middle end (Or however would you call that pricerange) Swiss watch it will more than likely be a Heritage Ranger.

They have definitely improved in recent years.

Rolex has plenty of offerings that won't immediately break the bank.

Do any of you use Nato straps on this Seiko?

The fact the the buckles are shinny but the watch case isn't triggers my autism.

I guess I could go with PVD Nato.

Anyway, I'm also open to suggestions on strap colors, black is good but I don't want to go always with that.

Also thanks for making me fall for this meme.
