It's a good high-level overview for people totally unfamiliar with dithering, but it doesn't go into the depth a whole deal. It also focuses mostly on dithering algorithms used in image editing programs, rather than dithering algorithms used for realtime purposes like media players (which need to be much faster and much more parallelizable).
For that, you need to look into ordered dithering and friends, e.g. http://bisqwit.iki.fi/story/howto/dither/jy/
mpv actually uses a more sophisticated algorithm here, invented by a particularly generous contributor.

There are many tools to create m3u files. Or you can runmpv --force-window --idle
and drop spme files on it from your file manager.

Honestly this x general bullshit has to stop. It's a media player. You use it to watch movies and shit. It's not even a text editor, display manager or whatever which could affect the efficiency of your work. It's a media player that you use to watch movies and listen to music. It's not justified to have a "media player general" thread on this board, let alone an MPV general. I understand you want "muh minimalism" and you want the command line and shit and I'm not telling you MPV is bad or anything, I even use it myself, but can we please stop polluting this board with meaningless generals? If you have so many issues with MPV that you have to create a MPV general thread every single day, I suggest you switch to VLC or how about you actually read the documentation?

It works fine from sftp. I use host-key authentication. I tried disabling SELinux, no change, so it's probably not due to permissions / firewalling.

If you get black screen instead of video, it's probably because of bad gpu drivers. Make sure you're on the latest available android version & maybe try posting output of "adb logcat -s mpv".
