What's a man supposed to be using on his desktop?
>>
>>54355560
windows 10
>>
>>54355560
Fedora, unless of course you're too retarded to use a real OS, which is why i assume you haven't been into Fedora's high society klub.
>>
>>54355613
what's so good about fedora?
>>
>>54355674
It's like Ubuntu.

It's all Linux.
Fedora by default ships with Gnome 3. Ubuntu with Gnome 3 with a skin on top.
Different package manager.
Different installer.

Same thing.

Gentoo if you have too much spare time.

Isn't getting non-us software (for mp3, dvd, etc.) just like one click in Ubuntu?

If even just that is too hard for you, what the hell are you doing on /g/?
>>
Why do people say Debian is shit, aside from their politics and use of systemd?
>>
>>54356049
As a Slackware user, I hate its package autism, where everything has to have custom patches and autoconfig crap - Debian has to do everything in their own Debian way with their own little quirks.

What's wrong with sane default configuration? It saves time.

>>

openssl is a funny example

It does not save time that Debian insists on configuring everything their own way, making the official docs of the software in question less accurate.
>>
>>54355560

Windows 7/Windows 10 (depends whichever has better driver support from your parts manufacturers). Dual Boot [your favorite unix based OS here] for testing and backup.
>>
>>54356699
nice meme dubs

And agreed, if OP shit talks Debian again, I will speak to their cat in a harsh tone.

I agree they screwed up there, but your best example is from 2008?

What exactly are you referring to here?

And if it's configuration, by definition it's easy to change. If you're talking about the sites-available+sites-enabled config for Apache/nginx/etc., for instance, you can remove that with a one-line change to the main config file.

>>54356735

if you can't handle microsoft knowing what doujins you read, maybe you should get some better taste
>>
>>54356802
Ideally, you shouldn't have to worry about handling it in the first place.

That's basically the idea behind free software: you should control the software running on your hardware, not some sweaty bald cokehead in Redmond.

these are true, rest no
pick whatever suits your needs
if you want the most recent updates you don't go debian stable, for instance
if you're going for more 3rd party software support ubuntu is probably the best
or perhaps fedora if your software is more enterprise-oriented (for the compatibility with RHEL)

It plays dvds and some blurays.
It opens .doc fine with libreoffice.
If you checked the nonfree box in the installer you would be able to play mp3.
Recordmydesktop-gtk & obs

Windows 10 or OSX.

Honestly, after years of using it exclusively, I feel pretty confident in saying that *nix on the desktop is a timesink. It's fine if you want something fun to do, but I actually need to get shit done besides fiddling with muh-minimul config scripts and window managers.
