Just got my vive today and it's pretty cool. I would not compare a vive to a 3d tv. Very different experiences.

3d tvs were just a stopgap marketing ploy that delayed VR from getting into consumer hands, and rode the HDTV marketing push into the ground.

At the height of the shortlived 3d tv sales, everyone wanted SMALLER screens and cheaper prices, not bigger ones that were more expensive.
