Hey, /g/. I'm new to Linux. Very new, actually. SO new that I haven't even installed it. Or picked out an actual OS. Can you guys give me some recommendations for OS's and some of the Pros and cons that comes with them?

Take a very standard one and get a feeling from there. I would say Ubuntu or any of its variations.
Pros and cons are mostly connected to preinstalled software choices, package managers, flexibility, DIY factor, etc, which shouldn't be important by now. With time you will make your own decisions.
Install Gentoo
Shouldn't somebody interject for a moment?
OK. I'm done.

Install windows 10 - you can now use GNU tools and run Linux apps natively on it - 0 reasons for Linux.
>>54347228
But you can do all those things using linux without inflicting windows on yourself.
>>54347021
i installed lubuntu today, it's really great, easy to install and very fast
>>54347377
Linux is shit, I don't have to inflict inferior Linux. Time is money.

How much you making shitposting on /g/?

Linux from scratch, so you can learn from the beginning
>>54347649
But that's not a reason. Linux tools have always run on linux, and windows is a sack of vomit.

>>54347649
you guys realize you could run linux in a vm for ages now
sure, now you can have bash in an inferior command line, but it's not like it revolutionizes anything
besides, bash on windows is still pretty damn unstable at the moment
can't even run anything that relies on having a working terminal application

Shut up you are not OP.

One day I'll be ready to try LFS again
Linux is good for learning about computers and is probably good to get to know as a high schooler or college student so that you can get your hands dirty with computers.
Using it for day to day tasks as an adult in enterprise is doable but can cause more headaches than nessecary.
