Does anyone actually use a tablet? iPads and shit?

I bought a chink one in 2013 and besides installing some game on it I hadn't touched it. I mean, it's basically an oversized smartphone. Everything I can do on it my phone does better.

Why the fuck do people spend money on iPads or Samsung galaxy tabs things, it's basically a phone with a larger screen and without phone functionality.

Anyone actually found a use for it?

pic rel the chink I got.

... Porn? Video? Web browsing where the text isn't tiny? Sketching? Reading books and color comics?
>>
>>54345539
> Porn

kinda unwieldy to hold the dick in one hand and a large tablet in the other,

> Video

laptop is better for it, and when watching in bed, phone doesn't tire my hands as much as a tablet(again, unwieldy)

> Web browsing
alright, that might be better

> Sketching
most tablets don't see a difference between touching with a pen vs hand, so you can't rest your hand on the screen, if you have one that can switch to only detect a pen, might me alright

> Reading books
more tiring on the eyes than kindle or any e-paper reader.

> color comics
yeah, that might be an use case.

My folks have a tablet. They use it mostly for watching videos when they're camping. The other main use is for showing off family photos when everyone's visiting.
>>
I bought iPad air many years ago. I don't use it for almost anything, especially after Apple made it a laggy POS with updates. It was a POS to begin with though. For example, Safari crashed pretty much constantly, probably due to the ridiculously low amount of RAM. It found a second life with my toddler. Now it's full of silly kids apps for her to play with.

What if you don't have a laptop and are too lazy to get up to your desktop?
Yes it did fit in my pocket
>>
>>54345498
>it's basically a phone with a larger screen and without phone functionality
It's more like a touch laptop without the keyboard. I knocked tablets until I had a roommate who had one, they are nice and fill that niche between phone and tablet. I don't have one but it'd be nice to have all 3 things.
>>
I'm using a Pixel right now.

Comfy sitting in my backyard at +30 and just writing up some stuff/replying to emails for work.

Have my build inside when I actually need to do any heavy lifting. I don't need a laptop so this works just dandy.

>Everything I can do on it my phone does better.
This is only because phones are more expensive.

You aren't going to compare an $800 iPhone to a $50 Amazon Fire.

That said I can see the benefit of a tablet in that the larger screen allows you to quickly watch something and play around without having to play around with a desktop computer.

But! I still haven't bought a tablet. I might get a Fire when they get a higher resolution and more memory for the same $50 to $100 price.
>>
>>54345498
i bought a amazon fire 7 5th gen ,
it has a nice screen except for the horrible ghosting/image burn in

rooted, flashed custom rom, installed xposed
it is my only real android device i use it for remote apps ,hue, TV remote, kodi remote
emulators, watching movies on kodi

thinking of buying another one , it's on sale for $40 right now through amazon
but i know my local best by had at least 2 or 3 old ones left with older FW

not sure if i should risk it
i wonder if bestbuy would know if i put the amazon tablet in the best buy ones box and return it
also mine has a dead pixel
i bought 2 , one for parents, which had no dead pixel but i updated to 5.1.1 still have everything the one 5.0.1 has except TWRP ,no flashing custom boot animation
so i kept the one with thedead pixel but they bot have horrible burn in issues
>>

>$50
Apparently the Fire tablet is $40 now.
Holy shit that is cheap!
>>
>>54346619
just buy it now while you still can find exploitable ones
it has an SD slot

the resolution is perfect for media ,not so great for text
>>
Just got the Surface Pro 4 recently, it's fucking beast!
>>
>>54345498
I use it in bed. There isn't much use otherwise.
>>
>>54346529
How about the wifi issues? I hve the dev discount but there are far too many owners reporting problems to comfortably buy it
>>
>>54345498
I use my roommate's ipad sometimes for reading comics. They're basically just pmps with nice screens/ui's

I use my tablet to program, watch tv, play android games, play emulators, work, play PC games and shitpost on 4chan. My tablet can do everything your phone can do and more.
>>
>>54348223
does it fit in your pocket and make phone calls/send texts to people in a normal way?

It can if it is sim capable.

If you can't think of any use for an A4 high resolution video screen that's as thin as a magazine and as light as a book, with onboard processors, several GB of storage, speakers, sensors, and "always on" wireless internet connectivity........you probably shouldn't be on /g/

it has better battery life than notebooks, you can stand up or lie down in bed with it which can help prevent your asshole from getting torn apart from prolonged sitting.

actually I'm considering getting an ipad instead of a laptop for my next purchase. All I ever do on my laptop thesedays is shitpost and read pdfs, if I really need to do anything complicated like programming or video editing I can just ssh into a server.

I really only use mine when I'm flying. I load it up with movies and watch during the flight. It's nice, but I agree it really is an 'inbetween' that doesn't do any one thing great, except for in-flight movies.

Mine is the Nook HD 7", which is really still one of the best tablets out there IMO. For fulfilling the niche of tablets, and for price/performance. Anything bigger than 8" is too heavy to hold by the corner comfortably.

You have a 16" tablet?

It's not a tablet, it's a convertible with a shitty keyboard.
>>
>>54349131
Until next time. I'm happy with my U2515H. Actually thinking of getting another one.

>>54349601
I can use a mech with it if I really wanted to. Keyboard is better than most laptops anyways.
>>
>>54345498

I'm sold on fold over convertibles. I'm sitting here on the couch watching TV and shitposting on 4chan using a Yoga 3 Pro. During the day it's my work laptop. Fucking perfect combo.
>>
i love my nexus 9. i have a new laptop that can instant on from hibernate and reboot in <2 seconds, but the fold out keyboard is such a hassle that i leave it in a bag and just bring my nexus.

I have an ASUS Transformer TF101. Bought it on eBay 3 years ago for $100 shipped. No cosmetic defects or scratches anywhere on it.

Browse the web, listen to music, Skype with relatives (yeah, I know, botnet). I use it if I'm chilling outside, too.

Also comes with an HDMI port so I can hook it up to the TV and stream shit illegally.

Probably can get a newer version for about the same now.

Because supporting a now endangered market is the only way to get a manufacturer to consider putting cellular antennas (and not just LTE bands), inside a tablet.

Turn the phone into a remote play screen and dedicated camera, make the tablet the main consumption and interactive device.
>>
Tabletfag here.
I swear by it.

I love my phone for its connectivity and mobility... But just about everything else is done on my tablet.

When the iPad first launched, I thought it was a joke. What the shit, seriously? What is the point of a way oversized phone?

Round late 2010, back when my stupid ass still loved Blackberry, I became interested in their attempt at a tablet, the Blackberry Playbook. (lolwtf)
I guess I was more getting stagnant with the lack of proper development for Blackberry, and the tease that the Playbook would be able to run Android apps. (lolol)

Wound up switching to the Samsung Infuse in mid 2011, and absolutely fell in love with Android. At this time, I was still kinda curious about the whole tablet thing, and the Motorola Xoom had caught my attention. However, messing with them in stores, I learned that Honeycomb, in fact, was a lagtastic piece of shit, and wanted no part of it.
...so I started messing around with the iPad 2. (I must have been fucked up in the head, really.)

I loved the functionality of my phone, but I really wanted something convenient that I could watch media on, read on, draw on, and all that crap. And frankly, at the time compared to Android, the Apple tablet was smooth as hell.

It was a true romance. (I'm not touting that because of Apple. But because having a tablet changed my life.)
From that day, I never touched my shitty laptop again.
Why would I ever need to? My tablet did nearly everything I was using the laptop for. And it did it faster, longer, lighter, cordless.
For all intends and purposes, my laptop may have well been a stone slab on a rope at that point.

I got a proper case to be able to stand it up, a stylus for drawing, and a Bluetooth keyboard for extended typing.

Granted, I've since upgraded my phone to the Note 3, and sometime round 2014 ditched that shit iPad for a glorious Samsung Note Pro 12.2 tablet. But I still haven't touched that damn laptop.

Laptops and Computers are still going to be better suited for power use. Coding (which I somewhat do on my tablet), Picture editing (I can do light edits on my tab), Gaming (modern games. I emulate psx and older games on my tab and play with a ps3 controller.) and stuff like that are good on a real system.

But for casual use, a tablet is where its at.
I primarily use mine for web browsing, reading books and comics, note taking (hand written or typed with a Bluetooth keyboard), drawing (the Note's S-Pen is super-fine and will always be better than a finger), and video watching. (I usually prop it up with the case rather than hold it.)

As for size, its a massive tablet, frankly. (bigger than iPads (Mini tablets are a joke.))
But it isn't too much bigger than, say, a spiral notebook or a pad of Legal sized paper, and weighs about the same. so I tend to just cradle it on my forearm, lay it flat on a surface, or prop it up with the case depending on what I'm doing or how I'm sitting.

The screen space is perfect for reading (if it is straining your eyes to read, adjust the brightness or use 'reading mode'). Sure, its no Kindle for paper like reading, but most of the stuff I read is graphic (comics) or full color pdf of books rather than raw text novels.
My Note 3 phone has a big screen, but I still have to hold it about a foot or two from my face to read. (And really, unless you have a Mega, there's not a much bigger screen phone than the Note.) With the tablet, I can hold it more comfortably about arms length as I would a magazine or something.
>>
>>54345498
Only reason I have a tablet is because I can't put a laptop in my pocket
>>
>>54353890
>>54353930

Lastly, the effective speed of use is one of the best parts.
The time it takes for any laptop I've had to cold boot is at least a minute. Usually up to 5, depending on which PoS it was. Then when I was done, I could put it in standby, which would take 30 seconds to a minute to resume from while still draining the battery. Or worse, I had to plug that bitch in, because the battery only lasts 4 hours.
Granted, I had to tweak some things to pull better life on my Note tablet (the battery on that iPad lasted FOREVER), but nothing a nice Rom and Greenify didn't fix.

I never have to turn it off. I want to use it, I just whip it out and click the power button and it is ready to use. Like 2 seconds, tops. Need to open an app to do something? 2 seconds. I don't care what top of the line laptop you have, you aren't going to get that sort of speed and responsiveness. And for casual stuff, that is all that is needed. Yeah, phones are the same speed, but I have 5 times the screen space on my tablet.

I'm certainly not trying to sell anyone a tablet here... But at least for the sort of stuff I do throughout my day, my tablet will be my best choice over my phone or a laptop nearly always.

tl;dr

I haven't used a laptop since I got a tablet. With the proper accessories, it is a great choice for any casual task. It is far quicker and responsive than a laptop, while the large screen space is more comfortable and more spacious than even the largest phones for things like extended video watching, reading, drawing, note taking, and web browsing.
-Android tablets and new iPads (lol) accept small precise stylii that are better than your finger for drawing and writing.
-Get a Bluetooth keyboard if you'll be typing a lot.
Get a good case with a stand for setting it up to watch video.
-Mini tablets are a joke. Don't do it.
-Don't get a shit Chink tablet. Take time, shop around, and get a quality tablet.
>>
i use mine to shitpost from bed

don't even have to get up anymore
>>
>>54345498
>I bought a chink one
There's your problem.

I bet you thought it looks just like an iPad in the picture, so it must be just as good.
