I'm looking for a new tablet. Needs to be a tablet and not a laptop. I will mainly be using it for watching movies. Must have expandable storage (SD or mini SD). Cloud storage won't work for me, won't have internet access. I was looking at the Microsoft Surface (or Pro). I like them because they run Windows and I could easily transfer my movies and TV shows from my laptop. I like using iPads but it won't work because it doesn't have expandable storage. What do you guys think? What are the best tablets? Price range is probably $700-$800 or less.

Surface 3 non-pro is a good buy. Video out, can run torrents, can run your vidya players (VLC, MPC). Pro version might be overkill. That said, you can get the old Surface Pro 1 or 2 for really cheap now (~$300) and they'll do the job too, but they're a bit heavy to hold as a tablet.

If you're only watching movies just get a cheap chink tablet, there is even ones with Z3700 Atom cpus so you can run any x86 software out there.

Any atom tablet since forever can play h264 content easily, 1080p movies at 40+mbps bitrate no issue.
If you want to play 4k h265 hevc movies you should wait for atom x5 and x7 tablets.

My Surface Pro 1 is fucking awful. Runs a 3rd gen i5 so battery is trash, massive bezels, always gets hot, 16:9 screen is utterly terrible for portrait viewing, heavy, kickstand only goes to one angle (it's a bigger deal than it seems). Attachable keyboard's trackpad is awful (no physical button, touch button is super tiny) for both the power and touch covers. This makes only having one USB port a problem, as it pretty much has to be used for a mouse (so I gotta have a USB splitter).
Surface Pro 2 is the same thing basically but with a Haswell processor so it might get some better battery life.
I like the Nexus 9 with a USB stick for extra storage. Cheap and very fast for a tablet.

I use a kindle 2015, with some mods of software you can turn on a battle streaming station... 50 bucks and a good micro sd,, torrent soft, streaming apps, link capture and some modifications and voala
