How many of you actually own an HTC Vive or Oculus Rift?
I am considering getting into VR, since there are many things I would love to do with it.
How is the experience?
Is it worth the money?
Another thing that has to be taken into consideration is the computer hardware needed to run any VR applications.
My currents specs are
i5-3470
Zotac GTX 970
16GB of RAM
Am I able to keep up?
dork

There's free SteamVR benchmark on Steam

Says the neck beard that rices Arch, and has no friends, or girlfriend.

As long as you like messing with controls and settings to get whatever you want to try working right it's great. If you want something that 'just works' buy an xbox
>>54323604
I have tried it before and it gave me capable, I guess since I have an older generation i5.
Not sure if that is actually realistic though, it might say capable, but when I actually play it can run everything just fine.
I do, its absolutely not worth the money and wont be for consumer edition either. dont get meme'd

Same for me with my fx-6300 @ 4.0, R9 270 and 8GB 1866
>>54323633
Dude I am not into gaming much, I want VR for the simulations and shit.
I own an Xbox and it fucking sucks, I am trying to sell it. Don't even recommend that to anybody. Plus why would I buy an Xbox for a VR experience.
>>54323631
Your CPU is fucking perfect. All you need is a GPU upgrade.
>>54323661
You need to upgrade your whole system.
>>54323644
Can you expand on that?
>>54323622
dork got triggered
>>54323718
Naw, I'm good.

Owned a HTC Vive, but sold it soon after I got it, mainly because my computer wasn't really up for the challenge and because I saw no real use in it. To me it's one of those things that you try a few hours and then get really tired of it when you got used to the sensation. It's just way more comfortable to use a normal display. I bought it for 800 USD and sold it for 1200 USD, which is pretty neat.

**Profit**
Good then you'll love it, I recommend macs to certain people too, doesn't mean I want one. Just that VR is a long way away from the dirty ignorant masses
>>54323694
well, long story short there are no games and it's way too expensive. VR won't be interesting until we have mobile spacial perception (i.e. VR equipment that knows where it is without a frame of reference, like the oculus cameras)
its twice as expensive as it should be for this list
>>54323570
You'll have to tone down settings but even the next Gen of gpus isn't quite enough for what we really need
>>54323802
Yea I understand you bud. I guess VR isn't ready yet. What hardware do you have?
>>54323870
VR will also be good when there are no wires and shit.
And no additional hardware.
>>54323882
I think that Pascal and Polaris will be ready.
I'd go for the cheap option with a Galaxy S6 and VR headset.
Cheaper than the competition, and when you aren't using it, you get the use of a good phone.
>>54323922
yeah that goes along with the whole mobile 3D VR/ Augmented reality. If you arent familiar with google's project Tango it's some pretty interesting shit
theres another project for giving 3D spacial perception to mobile devicrs with no frame of reference, but its not accurate enough for VR
>>54323975
I have a Note 5, sad that there is no VR support for it.
>>54323982
Have not heard of Tango, i'll give it a look. I really like Hololens, seems better.
>>54323936
Yeah, but only the top end which will cost just too much for anyone not rich
>>54324039
but on the Samsung web site it says
>* Compatible with Galaxy S7 edge, S7, Note 5, S6 edge+, S6 and S6 edge.
I have a Vive, it's alright.
>>54323570
yeah i got one
sorry for the shitty screenshot, had to lean over and hit the printscreen key
>>54323639
I have a i5-6500 which isn't all that fast and a GTX970, works fine for the most part.
Hover Junkers can get a little sketchy if there's a lot going on but theres reprojection when it can't hit 90FPS (movement looks blurrier, but your head's position and orientation feel correct so it doesn't make you sick).
I also noticed better behavior after turning off turbo boost on my i5.

virtual desktop?
>>54325080
nah just the browser in the steam VR menu
