Why does Windows take upwards of an hour to check for available updates, let alone install them, while it takes only a few minutes on GNU/Linux?

>Windows
That generic to answer you my neckbeard friend.
Windows 10 takes less than 1 minute searching for updates and install them as fast as 5 minutes or less if you have an SSD and good internet connection.
Do you have a specific example of your case?

Hello, yes this Pajeet speaking, Microsoft technical support. Thank you contacting us with your issue. Please, hold on the line for a minute while I check the information.

>5 minutes to install update
>forced updates
>your computer must restart for updates
>MS gets notified of literally everything you do on Windows 7 and 10.
>>54313427
Windows 7 with HDD and 75 Mb/s connection. Linux partition on the same connection is lightning fast so the connection speed is irrelevant as to why I started checking for updates 55min ago and it still isn't done
>>54313406
Prajeets have implemented global botnet for updating each other with spyware 10
>>54313480
>your computer must restart for updates
Only for kernel and NET framework updates. Same goes for linux with kernel updates.
>>54313561
Fresh windows 7 installs get stuck with a memory leak, you will see the service using an entire core of your cpu and shitload of ram.
Download patch, kill internet, restart, apply patch, search for updates again, BAM!
Less than 5 mins searching for updates.
Maybe if you had used google...

fug, on freebsd it's seconds
Does Windows still not allow you to remove more than one program at a time?
>>54313613
Fug on temple OS it's a few nano seconds
>>54313610
Supported until 2020
>>54313613
A few minutes is the high end of the spectrum
>>5431635
Nice meme. Temple OS has no tcp/ip stack
>>54313581
>Same goes for linux with kernel updates
Baby never heard of ksplice?
Why are updates on Arch Linux so big to download?
It's well over 1GB a week.
Can't I just download the delta's to the binaries already on my system?
>>54313613
Fugg on Amiga it's only a few pico seconds
probably because it's shit
>>54313448
Hello, no this is not the FOSS technical support. Prepare to not only endure years of abuse before we can help you with your printer. You must also say that we are really nice guys.

After using windows for years and going Linux dual boot six months ago, I'd drop windows completely if Linux had full support for windows programs.
>>54313855
Can someone sum this up in a TL;DR for a non-coder like me?
>>54313586
>2016
>this is somehow acceptable
Microsoft is trying really hard to get people to switch to their botnet release, to the point of crippling all earlier versions of Windows update.
my machine takes a couple minutes
>>54313855
This is gold right here, anyone got any more of this juicy insider gossip?
Yeah every time I do a fresh Windows 7 install, Windows update hangs at checking for updates for like an hour, sometimes more. One time i let it run for 4 hours and it finally found updates. Haha. Meanwhile sudo apt-get or dnf update on linux and im up and running with the latest updates in 30 mins or less
>>54313621
Of course, because fuck time productivity, you got to hurry up and wait!
I highly doubt they look at everything you do. That probably would be a big fucking waste a of bandwidth, and with data caps nowadays it would piss so many people off when their data gets eaten up in less than a week. it would be a publicity disaster for Microsoft, and would give normaies a reason not to upgrade.

Definitive proof (yet again) that Windows should be abolished.
