Modding Quake 3 Arena.
I learned Java first and then I learned about pointers and malloc, boom, C pretty much learned. Using it well is another matter. Part of the reason K&R is popular is actually for the code examples, they sort of provide a very basic version of "programming patterns" for C, like easy ways to solve common issues and whatnot. Before I read that I read "C Programming A Modern Approach" because it was more simple, I thought.

Yes. Learned a great deal from modding Q3A and wound up getting a job writing C programs years back.
