Any love for Celerons?
>>
Hello
>>
>>54310988
I have a Celeron 3215U in my chromebook. It's a capable little processor. Sips at power and really no complaints. Would post screenfetch or speccy but ChromeOS doesn't have those niceties.

...yes? It's in a chromebook. What on earth would I be doing on a chromebook that would require more power?

I'll enjoy my 14 hours of battery life per charge on a measly 3 cell while you laugh.
>>
>>54311094
Didn't even know Intel made ULV Celerons. That's like the lowest of the lowest.

If Chromebooks could actually run an OS which you could do work on, it would be nice.
>>
>>54311140
yea ChromeOS is very limited. Their "file browser" can't even rename drives for fucks sake. Technically it is completely possible for me to get Linux on this model via Crouton, or even remote write protection and install Linux on the metal, but I have no desire to.

Reading about Linux on chromebooks on the net, battery life has a tendency to take a shit because Linux is like that. So my 3 cell 14 hours giving battery would be lucky to get me 5 hours with Linux. Supposedly my model has some screen back lighting issues, and I have "skullcandy tuned audio". Aka a unique snowflake driver more than likely. Audio in Linux is also very poor.

I bought this Chromebook specifically for browsing, shitposting, and taking notes in a class that doesn't require a lot of computing power.

I have a Thinkpad T420 with Ubuntu MATE 16.04, i7-2620m, and 4gb ram if I REALLY need more computing power on the go. But for the $220 I spent on this Toshiba Chromebook 2, you can't beat the specs. 13.3" 1080p screen, amazing battery life, great keyboard, very loud and clear audio (skullcandy I know but MUCH better than stock shit). There is not a single laptop even remotely close to this thing in specs, features, or build quality at this price. If I have to put up with ChromeOS, so be it.

This Celeron, even U series, is more than capable though. Handle 10+ tabs of Chrome and a youtube stream no problem. Can also watch 1080p bluray rips without a hitch.

In 2016 Celerons are strong enough for basic browsing. Good that this remembers me of getting a 1155 Celeron for myself, I should find one for 5 €. Just for the case my board or CPU dies and I need to test it.
>>
>>54311894
Damn right honestly chromebooks are the best laptops on the market. Cause what do people really do on laptops other than browse the web, stream audio/video, or maybe watch a local video file.

They would be without that botnet OS. I'll get me a quadcore Atom TF100TA somewhen, maybe I install Linux on it (Depends if the touch works).

Just perfect, it can hold a HDD for travel, infinite battery, keyboard but detachable. Also cheap as fuck. I must have grown out of the Android Tablets.

I forgot to attach my current speccy in the last post. my 3770 doesn't seem to like more than 4400 Mhz. But the Ti clocks amazingly.

ChromeOS IS Linux. It has a lightly patched Linux kernel and a Linux userland with most of the expected services. If your battery life took a dump, it's because your stock distro defaults for power management weren't nearly as tuned as the out-of-box options set by Google.

I've OCed the 8320 as far as it'll go, at this point I'm torture testing it and basically asking it to fail so I have an excuse to upgrade.
Probably do a full new build summer 2017, depending on what comes out, if not put it off til '18.

as much as I hate it, I don't put it under that.

The true test will be this summer, afternoons my room gets up to 80F and by extension the processor will probably hit 60-70 under full load.

I've also got a CM 212 EVO on it, haven't done anything stupidly intensive to it, but in gaming it'll naturally cap out around 50C. I don't stress it too hard however.

Yeah, desu I like it, but it's really starting to become less useful than it was when IE11 first came out.

I'm just not a real fan of using Chrome. Although it would be better for YouTube, I suppose. I use IE mainly because its loadup time as fast as fuck, and I have the bad tendency of closing WINDOWS instead of TABS

Hello faggots bought a (very lightly) used office fujitsu esprimo minitower+monitor incl on ebay, a keyboard from a thrift shop, a cheap wireless mouse, a usb wifi adapter, and a new graphics card. Total cost about $270. Will do Lightroom, internet and some gaming. How did I do?

As long as you're fine not having ultra settings in every single game.

an r9-390 will at least be able to play pretty much every game at 3440x1440, it just wont play everything at high/ultra settings.

The best part about building a PC is waiting for the parts to arrive and then unpacking, assembling, turning on

After that, it'sl all down hill senpai, much like life, and prices of hardware upon purchase

>>
>>54330309
Yeah, back from the dead with a ghetto reflow. I'm actually surprised that my way of "reflowing" actually keeps the card alive. I reflashed its BIOS with the lowest clocks so I can prevent it from ever being a housefire (at 490MHz core it was literally burning my fucking skin) and actually live longer.

Idk if I can pinmod that, but there is a pin mod to do a 3GHZ Q6600, but i don't want to buy thermal paste and bother taking my giant heatsink off when i'm getting by with it.

TLDR: New architecture pls.

I should probably get a new GPU though
>>
>>54337434
AMD's old 45nm is still a beast, my britbong friend uses an Athlon X4 620 and it still hangs in there.
>>
>>54337446
Do you have a GPU reccommendation for me
Power supply is 600W and has 1X pcie connector
so i assume 150W is maximum gpu TDP i could be pushing
HD 7750 is really starting to hold back it works but pushing higher settings and it does drop FPS significantly
>>
Quick question lads
Would a quality 500W PSU be enough for a stock 2600K and an R9 290?
I want a 290 but I can't be arsed upgrading my PSU. Or should I just buy a maxwell card?
>>
>>54337479
Get a GTX 960, it's like 120w.
>>
>>54337520
I take it back get the GTX 970 if you want a little more, it's a 145w card, just within your power range.
>>
>>54337538
Heh something more in my price range?
60-70eur is max i could spend
>>
>>54319056
I assume you have a x230? Is 1866MHz the highest you can go with the memory? What make did you buy? I have a x230t and I want to switch to faster memory because of iGPU and don't know what's the highest I can run on my machine.
