Use it with some kind of button which ch starts a process of the pi. You can script gpio with bash or python.

All operating systems for the Raspberry Pi 3 are 32-bit, mostly because they're shares with the RPI 2. Wait for proper software support to come to 3, and if it doesn't, don't bother.

Question for Raspberry Pi 3 owners. Can it play 480p h.264 video in a window with mplayer or vlc and a web browser open along side it? OMX player is super for full screen video, but I've yet to see whatever proprietary magic it uses work inside of other open source video players. It's annoying there is no simple hardware accelerated decode in windowed mode. I had hoped with faster CPU and 2d opengl acceleration it wouldn't need hardware decode to play 480p without choking.
>>
>>54306955
Probably.
But I don't think you can do more than 2 tabs, and don't think about youtube when you're watching a windowed video.

Oddly enough the Pi 3 has a separate bus for WLAN while still using the same bus for LAN and USB. Then again for proper home server usage you're better off buying a second hand (thinline) server anyway.

I would like to see someone try and make a DSLR with a Raspberry Pi that actually uses a known DSLR lens.

>>

rPi uses proprietary broadcom videocore shit.
>>
>>54304583
Get the new IR camera, place it on a rotatable arm controlled by your Pi and stitch together the pictures to a seamless 360 degree panorama for browsing online. Place it on the roof and scan for fire, making it a fire guard.

Get the Pi magazine (freely available) and look through for more ideas.
>>
>>54312358
VideoCore is documented and you can get software for it.

You got similar doc. for ARM Mali?
>>
>>54312421
Mali have binary drivers for both Linux and the latest Android, Broadcom doesn't.

Mali also have working open source drivers, broadcom doesn't.
>>
I too recently fell for the meme. Thought maybe I'd use it as a mini computer for quick computing in rooms where my pc would be impractical, like a neat little PC in the kitchen or something. But this piece of shit can barely even load midori without crashing after seven tabs are open and you can't run ANY fucking software on it
>>
>>54312464
yea idk why anyone uses broadcoms shit and suggests they're open source..
>>
>>54312421
>>54313186
At the time of development (8 or more years ago), the Videocore 3 then 4, they were more powerful than the Mali. In addition, the videocore includes a camera ISP, LCD drivers etc, which the Mali does not. Also, the VC uses less power for the same performance, which was important for the mobile space it was aimed at.

I have a really shitty projector that I've been thinking of putting my pi into to make an emulator projector all in one thingy.

My problem is every time I get around to doing anything pi related the SD card keeps corrupting itslf. I've used 4 different SD cards and they all get corrupted the first time I restart the pi. It just makes me not want to deal with the pi bullshit

How do you keep the SD card from getting corrupted?

that's less than half the asked power.. there's your problem.

the only times they get corrupted is overclocking or bad power suppllies, idk why and idk how that even makes sense but that's what happens.
>>
>>54314546
how do I have it connected to my laptop via USB AND power it sufficiently at the same time then??
>>

Turn it into an XBMC box and give it to your parents.

If you don't already know what you need it for it's probably too complex for you to do anything with it anyway. Arduino on the other hand.

The hardware isn't good enough to warrant not just buying a cheap computer from a yard sale and it's not very accessible if you want to use the gpio pins like the arduino is.
