No its a sign that UAC unforgivablely annoying
>>
It's just bloat and doesn't stop even malware.
>>

it does stop malware you mong...

anyhow, disabling UAC is like running Loonix as root. No Loontard does that so why should you?

Seriously? I bet your computer is riddled with the malware equivalent of AIDs
>>
Daily reminder that disabling UAC is almost equivalent to running everything as root.
Just turn off the screen dimming and it's not that annoying.
>>
>>54296609
It in fact does stop malware when at the maximum, non-default level.

OP for once is not a complete cock sucking faggot. But instead, you are.
>>
>>54296719
>Just turn off the screen dimming and it's not that annoying.
Leave it on you retard. That "screen dimming" is the secure desktop that the UAC dialog runs in, making it impossible for any rogue application to interact with, and click the UAC dialog box.

That also means by turning it off, you aren't running at the highest levels which has benefits such as virtualizing the registry so that legacy, and poorly coded applications that like to shit all over it and cause all kinds of hell are isolated from the real registry.

DESU UAC *IS* useless...

Malware can easily bypass UAC, there's public code snippets everywhere for it.

Can you even fucking read you illiterate shit stain of a life?

Those byapsses only work when UAC is at default or a lower setting.
>>
>>54296778
That's a non-issue if you have common sense and don't use shitty software to begin with. Any such program should be run in a full sandbox anyway.
>>
>>54296851
That does nothing to alleviate the Secure Desktop issue I spoke of. Running it without that is just plain stupid. That's one of the main security points behind the UAC dialog is guaranteeing that nothing else can interact with it except the user.

I've had UAC off for 7 years now without a virus/malware/etc. All you have to do is not be retarded.
>>
>>54296298
Did you know: UAC is bypassable by default in 7 and above because crybaby retard XP developers couldn't get their shitty currynigger-developed software to run with admin privileges under Windows Vista.
Windows Vista was on highest security level. They turned it down a notch in Windows 7, enabling most of those bypasses.

Turn UAC up to maximum, that disables those bypasses and the vast majority of exploits. If you don't turn it up to maximum, you might aswell turn it off, it's the same thing to malware.

It's all about the enterprise. I don't give a shit about your data, you can pay those russians as many ruples as you want.

>I don't give a shit about your data
then why even reply? My data is backed up in real time, and anything sensitive is encrypted. My data is not at risk.

It's not. Linux kernel is nothing like Windows.

it does nothing. it just says: you've launched an executable which requires admin access, but i know that anyways because there's a tiny shield icon for those apps and it says .exe right in the name of the file

It's another layer of security. That's like not locking because "if a thief really wants to break in he will".

It actually did work for me. Someone sent me a virus disguised as a flash exe and windows would not let me open it, and i was confused to why. Then i used a virus online DB and found it was a virus. If it just ran straight all my shit would be gone and i'd have to download my backups.

TrustedInstaller (aka update) has more permissions than System, whch has more permissions than administrator.
You're running everything as admin, not root.

ITT: Retards who think that if they have UAC activated they're somehow magically protected from malware, and nothing can be executed without a UAC prompt.
Wouldn't expect anything else from Windows users.

UAC disabled here with AV.
No nagware and no viruses.
>>
>>54298107
What's the highest privilege level in Windows? How can I check mine?
>>
When Windows makes it possible for you to set your programs level of privileges then UAC can do the shit it tries to do but until that, it's shit and it prevents me from doing my work.

Also, it fucks with programs that I run through other programs.

Example:
>Autostart RealTemp
>Honeyview -> open image editor (PortablePhotoshop)
>Drag and drop to PortablePhotoshop
>Drag and drop to programs running on either privilege level 1 or 3 when Explorer fucks there at level 2.
>>
>>54296673
Not the one you replied to but I disbabled UAC a long time and never have gotten any malware. I run a check from time to time just in case
>>
I disable it primarily so windowed opengl/d3d applications don't die when the UAC prompt comes up. I don't know if this is still a problem in 10, though.

Also, it annoys me to no end when I have to allow things to work that are not threats. If it had a learned whitelist, and it didn't crash graphical 3d applications, I'd probably leave it on.
>>
>>54296609
Oh but it does indeed stop malware.

It's just that dumbasses (maybe like yourself?) click 'yes' to every question; and you LET the Malware past UAC.
>>
>>54299188
And then there's the dumbasses (maybe like yourself?) that need UAC to babysit you and your os so you don't install Malware.

Nice strawman faggot. The only retards here are dumbasses like you who believe that UAC at its max setting offers no security benefits at all.

Non here has claimed UAC makes you immune to everything, so you instead rely on a logical fallacy to pretend like you're proving a point when really you're just wrong.

Not that I'm objecting to UAC being a security measure, but why care to begin with?

Even the baddest malware on the market is foiled the minute you turn off your pc and boot from an external drive, and the malware that does more than that needs much more than just clicking "No" on a UAC to be stopped.

Besides, even if surfing the net unprotected was that big of a deal, your private computer doesn't have anything important on it. What, you're worried some russian hacker might see your weeb games? Or the porn you stored? Or your shitty work in progress on that web app you're working on?

99.99% of home users have no reasons to give two shits about any degree of security deeper than "Don't download .exe files off chinese sites".

The "Don't turn off UAC" argument may be feasible if we're talking about your work machines in the office, connected to like 25 other potential nodes to infect, but if it's just your home computer who gives a damn.
It's just pedantic, just to show "Look guys I'm a security expert, let me show you how you're doing everything wrong".

It's like asking someone in the middle of central europe to have constant hurricane evcuation drills and spend time making hurricane shelters. They're never gonna need it for their entire lives and end up just being a giant waste of time.
>>

>>54296719

Why does windows need to prompt me if its ok every time I try to run mmc.exe? I'm pretty capable of determining if I need to run mmc before I actually run the process.

I'm glad my company auto elevates processes without prompt on the admin account and restricts rights on the user accounts. It's heaven.

>claims to be virus free
>running antivirus
>has every symptom of being a virus

Runs at windows startup. Usually very hard to disable. Embeds itself into the registry. Changes permissions on certain things to protect itself. Stops the user from running processes. Scans\hijacks files downloaded from the internet. Has the ability to block internet access. Uses up system resources. Communicates with a home server. Sends data to home base on its findings.

Shits fucking malware, bro. I can't believe people willingly install these things on their systems.
