Is getting a VPN worth it for torrenting?

Is getting a VPN worth it for torrenting?
>>
>decisions are binary and my specific circumstances have nothing to do with the decision making process

Go away.

Unless you live in Germany, not unless you torrent very recent releases.
>>
>>54295391
no clue what this post means because of fucked up use of "unless"

this is why you're unemployed
>>
>>54295369
there is no reason to use a virtual private network for torrenting.
>>
Use a seedbox if you're really worried.
>>
>>54295369

a vpn won't protect you legally and may even put a bigger target on your head

what, you think those dodgy vpns in 3rd would countries ran by nobodies are actually going to have your interests at heart? how do you know they're not honeypots?

(I get it, vpn/seedboxes for use with copyrighted material are preferred to be ran in suspect countries due to the lack of ties with the first world countries that want to give you a good reaming for breaking copyright law, however by virtue of being in suspect countries it makes it easier for anyone to rent servers without identification and run honeypots or any other nefarious shit, anyone can say they're running vpns with multiple endpoints and no logging but how the fuck do you verify who they are nevermind if they're not logging your shit)
>>
>>54295494
Their best interest is their customers' best interest. If they keep no logs then what the fuck.
>>
>>54295369

vpns are honeypots, so no
>>
>>54295391
How risky is it if i only leech in Germany?
>>
>>54295568
"Free" VPNs maybe. If you are not paying for it, you are the product.
I would be willing to pay 20 bucks a month for a couple of months at a time.
>>
>>54295369
I'm just forced to use a lot of open public wifi. In this senses a vpn is worth it. Torrenting shit i just do with or with out one, i don't care. Seriously, come get me for torrenting an album or movie. I'm not downloading terabytes of shit and selling it. So, i guess what im saying is getting a vpn specifically for torrenting your bro's season one of breaking bad is stupid, but vpns are useful for other purposes.
>>
>>54295569
They record the IPs of everyone in the swarm (peers and seeds) so even if you don't upload anything you're still fucked. After that they send you a letter requesting you to pay €850 or they will sue you.
>>
>>54295759
No, they don't. There are lots of VPNs that don't record any user data or traffic. It depends on the jurisdiction they operate in.
>>
>>54295800
Sorry. I'm tired so didn't clarify well enough. By 'they' I mean the media mafia, not the VPN providers.
>>
>>54295528
>>54295494

There are no third world VPNs. Almost all of third world VPNs or hosting simply rent space from a larger provider. In any case, they all keep logs, especially the ones that say they dont.
>>
>>54295759
What kind if torrents are tracked?
I've been torrenting without vpn for a while now, and everything is ok.
I mostly torrent chinese cartoons though.

>>

They have an incentive to be trustworthy. They earn more money that way.
>>
I live in Germany and I want to get into private trackers

Is a seedbox from seedboxes.cc a good option? Will I be safe from the jews?
>>
ITT: MPLC
>>
>>54296417

You're probably safe. They mostly track normie stuff, where 90% of their profits are.
>>
>>54296636

Buy a seedbox, connect to it from a VPN with a non-German IP. I would say this is the most practical way to safely torrent. You could also torrent over Tor if you're really worried, but this isn't good for the network.
>>
as long as you aren't torrenting child pornography or something just get https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/ for like $40 a year sometimes 30 with a promotion.
>>
>>54295378
Nice shitpost, retard.
>>
>>54297098

Y-you too.

The OP is an idiot though. Why ask such a vague question without giving any specfics of your situation. How the hell are we supoosed to make a value judgment about VPNs for him if we literally know nothing about him?
>>
I have been torrenting normie movies and tv series from tpb for about five years now. I don't use any VPN. I just delete the torrent as soon as I've finished downloading it.

To take me to court in the UK and win the copyright company needs to prove that it was me who committed the offence on the balance of probability. Since I'll never tell them I've done it, and they can't take my devices to examine for a civil offence, combined with the fact that I have open WiFi (or certainly would do if I got a letter), they'll never take me to court.

I haven't even ever got a letter, but I know how to handle it if I ever did. It would be a hassle and a pain in my ass but it wouldn't cost anything because you can't lose a case where there's no evidence against you.
>>
>>54297212
that's not how the law works.

That's the equivalent of you leaving a loaded gun on your porch and then people die as a result. "Sorry officer, I didn't know I couldn't do that".

comparing piracy to murder, nice.
>>
>>54297406
Thanks, I try. My point stands however -- your logic won't protect you.
>>
>>54297081
thanks, but that seems very suboptimal.
A good logless seedbox should be enough. The question is, which company? Does anybody have experience with seedboxes.cc?

Also, torrenting over Tor doesn't work AT ALL. shiggy.
>>
>>54297533

Torrenting over Tor does work if you use it within Whonix. SHIGGY.

>logless online service

Don't fall for this meme.
>>
>>54297317
Not in the US anyway. You're responsible for your own network connection, but maybe it's different in the UK. The not admitting it was your IP thing is true in the US too.
>>
>>54297602
if you torrent over Tor you're literally worse than hitler. kill yourself.
>>
>>54297602
>implying someone would use a shitty OS just for torenting
also, I don't want to pay for a VPN + a seedbox.
Bad goy!
>>
>>54297619

I said as much in my first post. I was simply correcting him because torrenting does work over Tor, though it requires some configuration.

>>54297626
>qubes is a shitty OS

And you call me the good goy.

If you can't afford 60 dollars a year to sufficiently cover your ass then you need to focus on things other than torenting.
>>
Why do you need VPN to torrent?
How does your ISP know you're torrenting and not sending large files with your email?
>>
>>54297664
are you fat? you sound fat.
Nobody goes through that kind of hassle if it can be done in a better, simpler way.
And there have to be decent vps/seedboxes out there if there are decent vpns
>>
>>54297775

Torrenting over Tor is a hassle, but its the safest way. There are easier ways, sure. If you live in a cuck country like Germany then 60 dollars is a small investment to protect yourself from outrageous fines.

30 dollars a year for a seedbox and 30 a year for PIA to connect to the seedbox.
