To answer the question: I use only open source and manually audit the code before compiling.

with adblock, noscript and privacybadger FF was already near full bloat loaded, I wonder how many ram it will hog if you go full tinfoil.

no particular version. Just from personal experience.
Already three times, different norton "protected" pc's were infected, but bullshit norton was unable to detect it. Even Avira was alerting for infection.

Nobody can tell me that is considered good.

I had the same experience with all antivirus in the market. Some detect some viruses, some don't. Normal shit. Norton detect most therefore it's good.

dunno
back then
when everyone had win XP
my uncle, who taught me how to use a computer and helped me setting up my first computer because everyone else in my family had no idea about this stuff, told me if your pc has enough performance and you don't care use avast
else eset nod32

I'm still using eset nod32 because it just werks and didn't think about it too much
on my laptop I don't even have one because I'm too lazy to download and install one
>>
>>54295943
>can't properly delete virus and prevent reinstall after reboot
>have to use Spybot S&D in safe mode
I still think norton is crap, especially considering it's paid software.

It scans shit quickly on my shitbox, because it's cloud based and it's got very expansive definitions. Past that, I don't care that much. I just run scans with that once in awhile and let microsoft security essentials take care of active protection, not like I really need that anyway.

Antivirus is for when you're stupid and you make bad decisions. I infrequently make bad decisions so I don't have much reason to care about what's the best, so long as it works and it's relatively quick that's fine by me.
>>
NoScript, Disconnect Me, and privacy/security/ad filters with AdBlock plus
and a firewall that isn't crap which can block outgoing and incoming connections.

Plus, Sandboxie for opening any dubious files.
this: >>54296241

If your grandma or toddler needs an AV, use Bitdefender or NOD32 and a monthly scan using MalwareBytes. They are the best.

I use Linux, and I haven't been able to find any anti-virus software for Linux, so I don't use any.

(Actually, there is anti-virus software for Linux, but it's for Linux running e-mail servers, and it checks the e-mails for Windows viruses. But that doesn't count because those viruses can't run on Linux (assuming no wine).)

My fav is F-secure. They were one of the ONLY antivirus makers to come out against Sony in the rootkit debacle before the news went mainstream. They seem to take their users' security seriously.
