What are /g/'s thoughts on the HHKB?
Personally i love typing on it, but with the customs costs the price got very high, around 250 euros and I think it wasn't worth that much money.
>>
Found these today:

amazon.com/EagleTec-KG011-Industrial-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B015MQH59A (otemu blues)
amazon.com/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B016MAK38U (greetech green)

I keep seeing people say the otemus are decent in the magicforce, what about the greetechs?
>>
>>54269133

I think they feel like really good slider over dome boards, but wouldn't pay over 100 bucks for one.
It's just a classic price fixing by xenophobic companies. 250 will buy pretty much any switch board short of a beamspring.

>>54269133
Once you want something enough the price becomes irrelevant.
>>
>>54269215

That's some gambling-tier justification. I want a Ferrari Daytona, but don't want to throw my house and life savings away to buy one.

>>54269238
Then you don't want a Ferrari Daytona enough.

Think of it like this: I wanted the HHKB more than I wanted whatever else I could have gotten with those 220 bucks, so I got the HHKB.
>>
>>54269238
That's a bad analogy
1kk bucks vs 200
You can just be patient, save for a month or two and buy a good product that will last for a few years or even more, what's the problem?
>>
>>54269312

The problem is justifying something that's overpriced just because you "want it enough"

If you want it that bad by all means, throw money in the wind. But don't pretend it's irrelevant.
>>
Tfw i could get a lolita spyder for £30 but its not ISO UK :( why are UK layouts so expensive?
>>
>>54269529

ISO model Ms are pretty cheap, some Cherry G80s too
>>
Shipment cost from US based shops to EU are atrocious. Unicomp boards costs less than shipping costs....
>>
>>54269545
Yeah but not £30 cheap
>>
>>54269374
How you know exact "price" of a product? Does it include the enjoyment of using keyboard over time?
I bought NT and it's 30$ more than my logitech with browns, but i feel like it's completely worth the price since i like NT a lot more.
You know that every thing is overpriced since they want to make profit?
>>
>>54269529

>>54269589

There's a lot of German ISO G80/G81s if you want to buy a set of caps, here's the only regular non-terminal ISOs I found:

ebay.co.uk/itm/152068761512
ebay.co.uk/itm/272210752699

>>54269622

It's relative to other similar items on the market.
There's plenty of things worth paying more for, and to me, paying 2-3x for a glorified slider over dome board isn't one of them.
>>
>>54269798
>paying 2-3x for a glorified slider over dome board isn't one of them
That's perfectly fine, but not everyone feels like you do.

I've been intrigued by the HHKB for a while, but being so used to a traditional ANSI layout, I can't imagine getting used to the CTRL being where it is.

What was your experience like going adapting?
>>
>>54269561
I was considering buying and SDL to PS/2 cable from clickykeyboards.com, but then
>First Class Mail® International: $22.50
What the fuck. $22.50 for a fucking cable that you can send in a letter? And then they have the audacity to rationalize their insane shipping costs with some bullshit claim that they have to package them properly. Fuck off then, I guess they won't be getting any of my money.
>>
>>54269978
How often do you use capslock? How often do you use CTRL?

Imagine CTRL being right next to where your fingers are most of the time when typing. Seems nice, doesn't it?

>>
>>54271129
There has been some decent stuff in the past, but it's a niche market so group buys end and things become sold out.

DSA and SA profile group buys often include some kind of international kit, but it's never cheap. It's best to monitor places like Massdrop and the various keyboard forums to not miss stuff like this.

About two weeks ago imsto closed a group buy for dye-subbed PBT that had separate (!) Swedish/Finnish and Norwegian/Danish sets, including stuff like the ISO enter. We're probably going to see more like this in the future, but it might take a few months.

Lastly, a lot of manufactures don't even do ISO, but support is growing. Already you can find pretty nice stuff in UK layout or blanks. A few manufacturers will probably start to offer better language kits this year.

Is it at all possible to obtain a standalone numpad with MX Clear switches?

I've so far just looked at WASD's website and skimmed across the headlines of a Google search.
>>
>>54273320
It certainly is if you're handy with a soldering iron.
>>
>>54273328
I figured it'd be something like this.

I haven't done much soldering, but with a little practice I'll be at least as good as the average sweatshop worker.

Is there a place where you can buy a kit, or do I have to look up 5 different /csg/-certified peddlers to get started?

>board
>cables

>caps

Oh yeah, and then I'll have to get a soldering iron and some solder as well.

There's some standalone numpads (one with kalih blues on maxkeyboards iirc) available. If you desolder the switches and replace them with clears you're good to go.

Hi guys, just wondering what your opinions are on a keyboard for programming? I will be taking on a job this summer and will be working 40 hrs a week remotely. I will be typing intensively and I want to make sure I am comfortable while doing it.

I currently use a laptop keyboard which is okay, but begins to irritate my wrists after about 2 hours of use. I am not against laptops but portability is not a concern of mine now (since i work remotely)

Thanks for any advice

Depends on how much you use it and how much you like it.

Mine gets used for 9 hours a day and I prefer the layout against any other board out there. Worth every penny to me.

I just received the Redragon board a few days ago. It's really a solid build and quite comfy. I'd say it is very close to Cherry blues. Very decent for $40.

I've never used a mechanical keyboard so I'm not too sure. I'd be playing vidya games on it but I still want some tactile feedback and I don't mind a little noise but not too much. Correct if I'm wrong but I think browns would be good for this maybe?

>Layout

Well it's not really going to move from my desk so I don't mind too much. Although I don't really ever use the numpad so I guess 80%? (I think that's what it's called without a numpad)

Hey guys, I need some help

I recently bough a ducky shine 5 from mechkeyboards.com. I was super happy with it. But I now my fifth row, zxcvbnm, gets this weird error. When I press those keys with left shift, I get them plus Z, like CZ BZ MZ >Z most often, which is weird because it's exactly every other key on the row. Which keys are affected also seems to change depending on the lighting mode I have on. I have updated the firmware and reset it to factory settings, because I thought I might've fumbled with some macro setting.

Should I contact ducky, mechkeyboards, what do?

They seem to love using the (expensive) major international couriers, and the USPS no longer has any cheap international rates for shipments as wide as a keyboard and/or over 4lbs.

Assuming Unicomp ships out a 5lb full size Model M keyboard today (April 29) destined for downtown London:

Fedex: $149, delivery May 5th
UPS: $153, delivery May 5th
DHL: $125, delivery by May 3rd
USPS: $80, delivery by May 4th

Not accounting for any shipping discount they may have with their carrier.
