Hey guys, I figured it's time to upgrade my potato laptop due to the immenent release of "no man's sky" on steam to a "gaming" desktop.

Tldr Im pretty ignorant when it comes to computers, and I've got around $850-1000 to spend.

I just dont want to fall for some overpriced alienware gamerfuel meme trash.

The minimum specs for No Mans Sky are:
OS: Windows 7
Processor: Intel Core i3
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: nVidia GTX 480
Storage: 10 GB available space

What would you recommend? Thanks in advance tech-anons.
>>
Also, because I'm retarded, please something prebuilt.
>>
Buy the exact specs of the recommended specs
>>

>please something prebuilt.
No one here is gonna recommend you a prebuilt even if you ask for it. It's a terrible idea. Building a computer is like snapping together legos, it's not that hard, put on your big boy pants and do it like everyone else.
>>
>>54250833

Does the comp requirements above satisfy the RAM I need?

Building a PC goes like this:

install motherboard io shield
Screw in risers
Install CPU and heatsink on motherboard
screw motherboard into case
plug in mothoard front-panel connectors
install RAM
install graphics card
screw in PSU
mount ssd/hdds
Plug in all PSU cables that fit somewhere (motherboard power, CPU power, power to ssd and hdd, power to graphics card)
Plug in SATA for your ssd/hdds
hide cables if your case has a window

Plug PSU power, mouse, keyboard, and Windows (or your flavor of linux) installation USB
Install your OS
Install drivers for your components

That's it. Not that hard. Should only take you a couple of hours desu.

Modern midrange GPUs are perfectly capable of 1080p/60fps in most modern titles at high settings. Though you might have to drop down to medium in a couple of years.

System: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz CPU | Intel H110 Chipset | 8GB DDR4 | 1TB HDD | Genuine Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Graphics: NVIDIA Geforce GTX950 2GB Video Card | 24X DVD±RW Dual-Layer Drive | Audio: High Definition Audio | Gigabit LAN | Keyboard and Mouse
Connectivity: 7x USB 2.0 | 2x USB 3.0 | 1x RJ-45 Network Ethernet 10/100/1000 | | Audio | 1x HDMI | 1x DVI

And as for the game, Literally only No Man's Sky.

I have always dreamed of universe exploration and procedurely generated creatures in a sci-fi setting, the last time I got this excited was for spore, and we all remember how that turned out.

I already have other games on steam my laptop can barely run, but No man's sky is what's making me upgrade.

Come on man, JUST build your own.
If you're really worse than r9k anxiety wise, call around some local PC shops, ask if they could build it for you (for a fee, obviously).

Also, I'd avoid that 6600K prebuilt. That's not the performance you're aiming for with a $1k rig.

Win 7, 8.1 or 10 (depends on your stance with the botnet issues)
Processor: i5 6500 (non-k)
Ram: 8GB DDR3 or DDR4 if you can find it cheap
Graphics: R9 380
A couple of hard drives (1tb each maybe)

I'd suggest pcpartpicker to have a look at, I hope I gave you a rough idea of what to look for.
>>
>>54251525

>>
>>54250794
>>54250833 (if op)

Where in the world do you live
>>
>>54251485
6600k is a great processor, but the thing is that a card like the GTX 950 will be the bottleneck - it's designed to draw less power, so compromises in performance were made, and it fucking sucks to be honest. I wouldn't recommend even a GTX 960 for 1080p max settings any more, it really struggles.
>>
just go to fucking logicalincrements.com and build it yourself
>>
>>54251550
I don't want to sound harsh (sorry if I come across that way, though) - the 'k' branding indicates that it's unlocked for overclocking, which is a largely enthusiast thing to do.
I'm thinking economically for you - you'll be paying a premium for that capability and I don't think you'll ever use it, I nearly went for a 'k' model myself a couple of months ago but didn't. I'm glad to have saved myself the money.
>>
>>54251594
>>54251574
Thank you! And you don't sound harsh. Should I stick with Intel® Core™ Processor i5-6500 3.20GHz 6MB Intel Smart Cache then? And what card would go well with that?

>>54251571
Wisconsin
>>
>>54251574
Also, I don't necessarily want it to run at max settings, I just want it to run smoothly
>>
>>54251616
Yeah, a 6500 would be adequate for you, or a 6600 if you end up with some room in your budget for it (only for peace of mind). As for a card, well, I know I just shat all over the GTX 960 but if you just want smoothness and decent settings but not the absolute best, go for it. Just don't get the 4GB model, again it's another sum of money you don't need to spend and from my experience (I own one) I've never used more than two gigabytes at 1080p, so money down the drain for me.
>>
>54251677
Will "System: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz CPU
Graphics: NVIDIA Geforce GTX950 2GB Video card" make it run smoothly?

I know why you're more keen on that prebuilt, you mentioned your anxiety before and I completely understand that, so the only thing I can suggest to you now is to just look up benchmarks on YouTube or similar - "name of game GTX 950", there are bound to be results.

No man's sky releases in around 2 months

>>
>>54251791
I really think you'd be pushing it with a 950, 480 is a couple of years old but it was a high-end card for its time. 950 is low-middle level for today, with drivers and stuff they might be similar in performance, but the 950 won't give you a lot of room to breathe, so to speak.

Honestly, why does everybody say that pre-builds are bad ?

Can't you just film yourself unboxing a pre-build pc for evidence, if got a faulty component ?

Lastly, let's say that you just don't trust yourself when it comes to building and taking apart PC parts.

Wouldn't it be smarter to buy a pre-build ?
>>
>>54263218
pre-builds get you stuck with ORM hardware that won't play nice with any eventual upgrades, and you'll spend six months looking for / crying about / writing your own wifi and sound drivers if you want anything other than Winblows on it.

The argument here is "build from scratch" or "get a pre-built and then upgrade it", so you'll need to figure out how to assemble and replace and cable all those components either way.

plus, teach a man to fish and all that really does have merit. Tell the HR rep at your next interview that you "build computers" and enjoy your new job

Please somebody, if my laptop COULD run No Man's Sky at such low power, I wouldn't need to buy a rig or ps4. Can you tell if this is enough?

Minimum card for game: Nvidia gtx480
I have GeForce GT 750M

Minimum gpu: Intel core i3
I have Intel core i5-4200M

Minimum RAM 8 gig
I have 8 gig

I have enough free disk space, and my os is compatible.

Is this pushing it too close? Can I still run the game at low settings around 20-30 fps?

I feel as If the RAM portion will cause my game to stagger every three seconds and drop to like 2fps. Is 8 out of 8 gigs sufficient?
>>
>>54263342
The site I used to compare all this says my card isn't good enough, although underneath it states that my card has the required pixel shader version and vertex shader version, as well as 2048 MB of dedicated video RAM out of the required 1536 MB

I updated my drivers yesterday, as well

Thank you in advance if anyone can help me figure this out
