Hey, Ruby on Rails poster.

I suggest having a look at the improvements introduced into PHP in the last few years. PHP is still far from perfect but they've been putting in a good effort to fix it.
>>
>>54235815

The problem lies not within PHP itself, but the fact that allows you to do a lot of shit coding (similar to JS).

Even if they miracullously managed to enforce good pratices onto PHP you'd still see a lot of terrible legacy code out there..
>>
so at this point pajeet is basically synonymous with a person who has a real job?
>>
>>54235916
pajeet detected
>>
>>54235885
I understand your point, but I view the laissez faire aspect of PHP's code regimentation to be a strength.

Why should a language baby programmers through the whole process?

Why should a language force programmers to adhere to a style dictatorship imposed by the authors?

I also feel PHP teaches programmers the importance of good practices considering how easy it is to spaghetti yourself. And it's useful for being able to tell the difference between a good and bad programmer.
>>
>>54233451
>c, python, ruby, rust and scala.
i bet you dont know any c
>>
>>54235956
PHP is a lame language where you need to sanitise each fucking functions if you don't want security holes
>>
>>54236024
Well that just means you have more control over sanitation, indicating PHP is a lower level language than some alternatives.

I don't see that as a bad thing.

As I said, it's a good language to scope out the good and bad programmers. In my experience PHP coders will almost always write spaghetti for their first big project, but if they start doing all of the best practices from their second big project then this is a good coder, if they continue writing spaghetti this is a bad coder.

With other languages it can be a lot more difficult to know if you're wasting your time on a hire or not. With PHP, it's so damn easy.

Performance one to two times that of C++. Easy thread-safe concurrency. Unified code formatting and being one of the few actually simple languages makes it easy to learn and maintain. You can check the source of almost any random project and quickly understand what is going on, because there aren't 300 different ways to write 5 lines of code. Python-tier of extensive standard library. Static type inference, so you spam types less. No need to architect type inheritance trees. Efficient use of memory. First class functions. Only 20-40 ms GC pauses. That's off the top of my head.
>>
>>54246754
>GC
Can't use for a game engine then.
>>
>>54246807
That's true, Go probably isn't for safety-critical or game like projects. On the other hand, if you want to build the services that handle everything other than the gameplay (login/auth, social, achievements, statistics, matchmaking) Go might be worth looking in to.

Yeah, 40 ms is a bit too much for fast-paced games. C++ is still the go to language for those. Go is more for random applications, tools and servers. However, for a realtime game server, I'd use Erlang or C++.
