Hey /g/uys I'm in a dorm writing and essay and i really want to smoke. Unfortunately there's this thing attached to the ceiling about 12 feet off the ground. What's yall's assumption? Is it a smoke detector or just an alarm? Am i safe to vape?

my room mate used to set off the fire alarm often by vaping, but he would do it a stupid amount to where it was obviously a bad idea

That would be a smoke head. Most likely connected to a central fire panel. Some have a detection based on photo and the concentration in the air for a verification. It theory it shouldn't set it off. However a simple process would be drop it and put a 1k ohm resistor across the 2 wires and it bypasses the system. These devices are typically "supervised" and if it is disconnected will generate a trouble at the main fire panel.

Vapor wont necessarily rise to the top or sink. So just blow the smoke under your desk. Also im pretty sure thats a fire detector so it wont detect vape smoke.

it started as a safe alternative to cigarettes to help quit. You would start with liquid that would match your current nicotine intake, and then you would slowly get lower and lower %nic liquid until you hit 0, and hopefully, successfully quit from doing so.
Now it's turned into a FATTEST CLOUD contest scene, and a lot of people smoke it without nicotine because they want to look cool. It's definitely went downhill and is no longer serving its original purpose, to the point where people are actually getting INTO nicotine with it, and just staying at a certain milligram level.
I personally don't enjoy it, I've never smoked cigarettes in my life, only tried a cigar once and it was nasty to me, but I do enjoy hookah smoking, I won't bash anyone that vapes I guess. It's just not the same to me because the texture just isn't there, and there's no heat to the vapor, which is what I like out of tobacco. Tasting a cool cloud of air just isnt the same to me.
