I don't get it... I tried to find HGST warranty for the hard drives, but this shit site does not says how much time I have to replace faulty HDD! Even the sellers on the stores don't know. Why do they do this to me?

I will not buy this shit. And the situation gets worse, because the online sellers of other labels blocked me for asking too many questions...

Well, guys, it's time for a new TV. Well, not new, just new to me. I will be buying a used one off craigslist.

I need to find one that has very low input lag, as it will be primarily hooked up to an HTPC and doing some light steam in home streaming. My Samsung from 2009 had noticeable lag, and I want to avoid that this time. I would also prefer it to be LED backlit. Also, no 'smart' TVs.

What are my options? What brands have the lowest input lag?

Is implementing IPSec achievable between two VM's running Windows 8.1 and a third VM using Windows Server 2008? If not, what do I do?

I am using VMWare Fusion under OS X.

My project is trying to prove that implementing IPSec policies between two VM's can work showing the encrypted and unencrypted packets using Wireshark using an unencrypted chat application called AChat.

Please help /g/, you're my last hope.

So much wrong.

You don't need an aftermarket cooler for an i3, you don't need a motherboard that's for overclocking (your cpu is not overclockable)
>not pirating windows
>gtx 970
garbage

Just get a 380x/960 and bump it to a i5-6600k (or 6500 but seriously $20 won't make you rich or poor) while keeping everything the same otherwise. You don't even need an aftermarket cooler unless you're overclocking or if going for an aesthetic build which you clearly aren't. You'll use keep the pc for much longer. Think long term.

The i3 is capable of running pretty much any game though... I just wouldn't really count on it for anything CPU intensive.

You can save like $150 by dropping windows, the cooler, the 970, and going with a 960/380 + i5. I wouldn't spend a lot on a GPU if I were you, good stuff getting released soon. Either buy new gen or get current gen cards for cheaper. Are you sure your iGPU can't handle it until then? What games are you playing?
>>
>>54210531
Pretty much. What was wrong with your SSD?

Consider language L = {ω | ω ∈ {a, b}∗, na(ω) 6= nb(ω)}, where na(ω) and nb(ω) denote the numbers of a and b, respectively, in string ω.

2. (15 points) Prove that L is not a regular language by the pumping lemma.

Anyone know this? It's for a practice exam problem. I know how to prove pumping lemma, but I'm not sure which string I should use to pump.

>>

Much better. Don't you have old parts you can reuse? Case and hard drive maybe? If you want to skim costs you can go with 8gb of ram too for the time being. Also the 6600K needs a cooler. I suggest the Cryorig H7.

>>54210736
960 won't cut it for next gen. AMD is better at scalability. What resolution? Maybe at low settings you can pull off 30fps at 1080. If lower then you're fine, but games have a minimum resolution requirement.

>>54210807
Depends on what you're using it for. I'm assuming you're using windows so check if the processor is 64bit to go past 4gb. If you're cash-strapped 6gb is fine, even 4 depending on what you're doing. Also check if it has one slot or more.

You're paying premium for outdated hardware.

You can pay that much if you like but fair it's not. Heck, you can get an overpowered laptop if you want performance, like the Gigabyte P35 or 55 series for cheaper. If you want aesthetics you can get an XPS or Lenovo for cheaper. If you want some middle-ground you can get a Dell i7559-763BLK (for cheaper).

I'm not exactly an Apple kind of guy though.

I have a 4670K @stock, and 8gbs of ram.
How important is having a lot of ram when video editing?

Using camtasia to capture online esports/gaming/whatever streams into high quality AVI, then load into Adobe Premiere to cut up and export as a webm highlights or reactions.
The intial encoding of the stream from camtasia takes a pretty long time, the premiere Webm encoding is only a little faster.

The camtasia encoding runs my CPU to about 40-50% but it takes up 6 and a half gbs of ram. Premiere doesnt work as hard.

Is my computer throttling either program because of ram, or is it strictly the performance of my CPU?
Since neither seem to get maxed out, im not sure what to think.

I might try and overclock the CPU one of these days, but am trying to decide if adding more ram is going to increase performance or not.

I have an odd question, /fglt/. I've been using Ubuntu Linux 12.04 for a while now, and love Unity. However, I looked at 14.04, and I didn't like it for small reasons (icons not lighting up a little while hovering over, etc.). I just liked the Unity from 12.04 more. Is there a way I can upgrade to the new 16.04 while keeping that old Unity UI? Or will I just have to suck it up and get used to it? Thanks

This is a long shot...

I have a laptop that fell off of a table and the hard drive started making a scraping sound and wouldn't load Windows. I was poking at it with a few Linux live CD's to mount it to try and get data off of it, but now it makes no sound at all and I think it might be entirely disabled.

Has anyone done data recovery on this level and know a good guide? I've tried regular linux live CD's, finnix and ubcd but I don't think any of them are the right tool for the job. Does anyone know how I can recover the data?

Ah, the best reading skills i do have.

The difference between the varying *buntus is that they all have a different interface. When it comes down to Ram/memory usage most of the time it's the interface that takes it up.

Unity in "vanilla" Ubuntu is made to have plenty of features, but of course that eats up ram.

Lubuntu, and Xubuntu(slightly more resource intensive than lubuntu, but a better balance of features imo) were made with the intention of being lightweight.

It's why you see desktop fags like arch users talking about minimalism and customizing their desktop by using a few small programs instead of a whole Desktop Environment.

So my PC decided today that while I'm playing vidya it randomly crashes in a very peculiar way. Basically everything goes "unplugged". Monitor goes"no signal" mouse, keyboard and gamepad turn off. The only way to correct it is by killswitching my PC and start again, the reset button doesn't do shit, apparently.

I've already changed the paste on my CPU and cleaned the whole thing but it doesn't seem to be a temperature problem, I've monitored it and tested it and while gaming it crashes at random times, actually the latest crashes have been in the least demanding portions of testing, and temps always stay around what has been the norm for my rig since forever. This has never EVER happened to me before today.

No, not with either of them. The features im talking about describe how the UI works. like thumbnails loading for pictures when you open up a folder or a window shaking when you open it. Most of the time it's just extra stuff you don't need.

I'd recommend trying Xubuntu first.
>>
>>54212906
Sure it should, it should also technically be to spec too.

These are the exact symptoms of an overloaded PSU. All it takes is a spike in power from something to kick it over into the overload protection, hence why you have to turn it all the way off and all the way back on.

Most of your other components will either work or they wont.
PSU tends to be the big one where failure and problems are intermittent.

Ok, so I'm now 2h in playing DaS3 and I've been playing co-op on this resource intensive area and boss and although I'm hitting peak temperatures (which should relate to power consuption) it runs just fine. While all the crashing takes place in mundane areas doing mundane things like navigating an empty room at really low temperatures(relatively).

Does PSU still make sense and how do I test to see for sure so I can claim warranty in case it is?

So let's say you wanted to write software that would:

1) Scrape Craigslist (and later other sites) for a specific set of listings (a particular car, in this case)

2) Push those listings into a database, checking for reasonably obvious duplicates

3) Serve those listings up

and

4) Maybe do some client-side manipulation of pages.

What language(s) would you choose for this? I'm wondering if I could do it all with Javascript...

(for the record, I'm a C++ guy who barely knows JS. My webby experience is in PHP, which I dislike)

>>

>are there any losses I'll incur in terms of privacy or features by making the switch?

As far as I know, yeah, you'll lose "privacy", for some definition of privacy. I think it largely boils down to a metadata-vs-data argument, so it depends on your own personal criteria.

But I can say this: you'll lose your license. When you upgrade to Win 10 you're not given a key. It's written to the UEFI BIOS by the OS. If you ever have to swap motherboards, you just lost your license. Currently, you can start over by reinstalling your original OS (8 or 8.1), but who knows if that will always be the case.

Personally, I'm on 8.1 with ClassicShell, and I have no intention of upgrading until they work out a TON of issues.
>>
>>54213769
>fit more windows

I don't quite understand. Aren't windows just the size that i stretch them to? As in isn't 4 windows at 1080p the same as 1440p?
>>
>>54213833

Because I want to create a dataset that I can generate statistics from.

Like, given options X, Y, and Z, what's the median price range over the last year, has it been climbing or falling, how long do they stay on the market, etc. Zillow for a specific range of cars, I guess.

I've already had various CL watching apps and RSS feeds going for years. I regularly save printouts and images of listings. I just realized I'd be better off automating this, making it more comprehensive, and seeing what interesting data I can come up with.
>>
>>54213906

He means text. With scaling off, and a high-DPI display, you can fit a ton of very small text on the screen. Effectively, you could take your existing windows and make them smaller, while still getting the same amount of data visible in each window. Thus, fitting more windows per screen.
>>
>>54213840
Thanks
>>
>>54213906

Each window is made up of pixels. So on a 1080p screen 4 windows simultaneously on the screen would be 480x270 each while with 1440p they would be 640x360.

They make insulated containers you can keep it in for a while, though it will still dissipate eventually, I doubt you could keep it until the summer.

In theory you could keep it in a container that was pressurized high enough, but it would probably just liquefy before it got to that point and would be kind of dangerous if you didn't use the right kind of container.

because you don't really have any control over what IP you have, and they're (typically) not as easy to remember

but yea, you can use an IP instead of DNS for any purpose, even email (like "[email protected]"), as that's what will happen internally anyway

DNS is purely a convenience thing, attaching a human-readable name to a 32-bit number
