This is a thread for topics that don't deserve their own thread.

I'll start:
Is an AMD r9 390 better than a GTX 970, and is the performance difference noticable?
>>
I'm not sure this question is really /g/-related but here goes:

What is the best service to queue video uploads to YouTube? If I have let's say 7 videos that I want uploaded at noon every day for a week automatically. Is there even such app?

390 is better on paper and universally considered more future-proof, that said, currently the diference in performance is marginal and varies by game
>>
>>54201552
1080 - 970 memeory is real at higher scaling. also if buying new allows mini ITX or cheaper cooling meaning extra dough for ram or SSD.
1440 - 390, while 8GB is mostly meme, some games it is useful and if its a game you like and play regularly it doesn't matter if its muh 0.5% of games if its 50% of your gaming time. also doesnt really have much performance difference.
>>
>>54201567
I believe you can do this with youtube itself, by uploading the videos as private and then having youtube "release" them to the public at scheduled times
>>
>>54201552
Don't fall for the AMD meme. Some games (A minority) will run marginally better, but you'll also get the express pro ledge of dealing with AMD's shit drivers and poor support. With overall lower temps on the 970 you'll have more room to over lock, making it the better card. Don't ever fall for the AMD meme.
>>
>>54201552
They're both pretty much the same except the 970 is equivalent to $50 cheaper here.
>>
>>54201552
So my user profile service fails to login.

If I restore my computer will multibit wallet be affected? (I didn't create a backup stupid I know)

Multibit has been installed for a while, but my last restore point is before I made my most recent account.
>>
>>54201552
They perform similarly right now but NVIDIA cards age like milk. If you want the card to last you many years, go with R9 390.
>>
>>54203265
>pro ledge
That's how a typical nvidia fanboy tries to spell privilege.
>>
I've been thinking about upgrading from my HD 7970 to something more modern, is there anything that would give me a significant improvement for <$300?

processor is i5 3570k, if that's of any relevance
>>
>>54204360
970, 390, 290
I'd suggest waiting for the next generation, though
>>
>>54201552
At 1080 they are pretty equal, depending on the game.

At 1440p the 390 generally pulls ahead of the 970 due to more memory bandwidth and video ram.

at 4k the 390 is the definite winner, but if you're in 4k you should probbaly get a Fury or 980 Ti.
>>
>>54204840
desu i think if you are at 4k both are considered a loss

Yes, and Maybe (if you play games that make 3.5GB VRAM an issue).
Very similar performance in most cases, though

Am I fucking retarded, or does the github link in /wsg/'s sticky for Webm for Retards not contain an actual executable for webm for retards? I am rather prone to errors when typing and ffmpeg is making me tear my hair out.

Are my 390x's dying out for some reason? Crysis 2 (with all the dx11 tex mods) freezes my game completely on load of a save. I can't even alt+f4 or control+alt+delete either, I have to hard reset.

Grid Autosport freezes my screen on menu load, but I can hear chimes from moving my selection buttons. Again I have to hard reset.

Arma 3 will freeze on menu load, but if I can get it to load a mission it will give horrible ghosting textures that persist until the game looks like a collage.

This happened a few days ago after a good year now of great service and maintenance so I updated the driver and it is still giving me these issues.

Is this just an AMD thing? I've never made a high end AMD GPU rig.
>>
>>54206783
Yep, ditch those shitty housefires for a superior 980Ti at the very least.

I've been quite happy with their performance at 4k, I'm just wondering if it is bad drivers.

I can play GTAV maxed with 4xAA at like 45-60fps.

AMD's shitty drivers are the reasons why you're not having a good experience. The only way to solve those problems is to do a clean uninstall of all drivers and removing the card from your system. Playing on an iGPU is a literally better experience than playing on an AMD card.
No driver hassles, no crashes, no failure to load.
Sell the card to some poor, dumb fuck and save enough to buy a 980 Ti like a smart person.
>>
>>54206783
sounds like overheating making it throttle, by the sound of it CPU throttling, not GPU

check your temps, including motherboard and RAM, most people overlook those but if there is a dead spot in your cases airflow (ie shit case), it could cause overheating there

What's a good equivalent to the 280x?

I can't just deal with this shit but I don't want to go out and spend money on a new card. Specially not another 200 fucking bucks.
>>
What would this look like in pseudocode?

Design the logic for a program that allows the user to from 1 to 12 positive integer numbers and store them in an array. If the user enters -1 or reaches 12 numbers, do the following processing:

- display the list of numbers in reverse order from which they are entered

- compute and display the average of the numbers entered

- determine and display the highest number entered

- determine and display the lowest number entered

Exit the program after completing the above by displaying the message "That's all folks!"

How do I go about choosing a replacement motherboard?

I know what socket my current one is (1155) and thee chipset is z68, but searching on PC part picker leads to no results now.

Can I stick to a 1155 board but with a different chipset?
>>
>>54201552
I need a computer that can run a full office suite as well as Internet browsing and a few vestigal applications such as light media editing.

Problem is, I need it for >$100.

There's a Dell Latitude D610 for sale near me for $80, with charger and all, but it's CPU's passmark score is 400- the computer it's going to replace has about 800. Will this be enough to run Debian, Libre/OpenOffice and Pale Moon/etc reliably, or am I gonna get cucked?

I'm on a timeline- the loaner computer I'm replacing will be downgraded to Windows 10 soon, and given how utterly retarded our IT department is, I REALLY don't want to be stuck with the damn thing when that happens.
>>

I'm still using a 7950 and it just works. Granted I don't play most of the games coming out, but GTA V worked perfectly on high settings (60-70 FPS).

Is the R9 390 more future proof than the R9 Fury because
>only 4GB
or is my friend bullshitting me?
>>
>>54209721
The R9 Fury has a hardware compression and higher bandwidth. It can do more with less memory.
>>
>>54209879
Awesome. Gonna parrot you and call him an assblasted poorfag. Thanks senpai.
>>
>>54209904

The Fury is a flagship card, the discussion on what is future-proof should end there as the 390 can't produce similar results in current games even.

any recommended/trusted brands or models? the POS I'm using is beginning to fuck my back and I spend hours on this thing. /g/ would know best.

A. for it to release
or
B. for the shit you wanted to buy to get cheaper

seriously, just tried to do a quick google search, had no idea these things can get up to 2000 dollars.

apparently this ones really good for its modest (in comparison) price

>>
>>54201552

Yes the 390 is better than the 970

the 390 performs better at higher resolutions and in DX12/vulkan meaning its more future proof, is less prone to coil whine, and isn't prone to the same driver issues Nvidia has had these past few months
>>
>>54210074

The IKEA Markus, relatively inexpensive and comfy as fuck
>>
>>54210317
How likely is it that the 980 will go down to present 970 prices once pascal comes out?
>>
>>54210346

Not going to happen, Nvidia has the kind of Apple mind share that they will sell out of their current stock before resorting to dropping prices that drastically
>>
>>54210346
Absolutely fucking impossible. Wait 3 years and it MIGHT.
>>
The r9 390 will age much better than the gtx 970. I came form having dual r9 290s, to a single 390 when one of those 290's started showing problems.

I now have a 980ti. Personally, I like nvidia better because of the amazing 980ti performance and I actually use some nvidia services like Shadowplay.

If you don't have it in the budget for a 980ti, then definitely consider the r9 390. The 390X if the price is decent as the extra shaders do offer an additional 7-12% performance over the non X 390. That and they usually overclock a bit better.

Overall the 390 while a bit more power hungry (tiny bit) than the gtx 970, is a much more worthwhile purchase.

Stay away from Asus anything for the 390.
Sapphire is awesome
Powercolor PCS+ is a very solid option as well. (This is the brand I owned)
MSI cards usually clock the highest but have some of the shittiest cooling of the 390s.
>>
>>54210317
What's your price range? Nvidia goes on sale regularly because they sell more cards, and often than not you can find Nvidia competing cards cheaper. They always come with a $60 game too that you can sell easily for $30.

Hey guys, poorfag here. I currently have an HP Pavilion desktop from like 4 years ago and I want to play some games. So pretty much, this basic ass, run-of-the-mill computer cant play very much of anything (specifically the p7-1254 model). Skyrim on low settings at about 20-ish fps, New Vegas on medium about high 20's just as a couple examples.
I want to be able to play these games better without buying an ass ton of parts. Would i be able to throw a gtx 750ti in there and play these games better? Im not expecting the best performance, but i just want to be able to play some of my games right now.
>>
>>54210592
Get a R7 360

>>
>>54210663
Will i need to get a new PSU for that? Mine crrently has a 300w. Also, will either bottleneck the shitty apu? Im stuck with the FM1 socket since i cant change the motherboard. Id also rather not dish out another 100 bucks since ill eventually build my pc within the next year

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A6-3620+APU
>>
>>54210735
Should be fine with a molex to pcie adapter.
>>
>>54210663
>>54210749
>>54210592
Also, upon more researching this, some guy in the HP forums was saying it wouldnt work because the 750ti requires UEFI in the motherboard and my PC has standard BIOS. Wtf does that even mean?
>>
>>54204360
You literally don't need to get a new GPU right now since the 7970 is still an amazing card, wait for the next gen.
>>
>>54211589
It means they are stupid. It will work fine.
>>
>>54210735
looks like you can get a top end FM1 quad core for $40-50

>>54211715
when is next gen release?

main reason I want a new card is because one of the fans stopped working recently, and I'm not really sure how I would fix that
