I used my MDRs with a Moto E, my own Lumia 630, and a Galaxy S4, every last one of those little shits gave me noise on the output.
Keep in mind it's more than just the source of the noise that matters, it's the headphones too.
In my experience headphones with lower sensitivity, cord length and higher impedences will be more resistant to noise.

I usually use the music player pre-installed on the phone or Spotify.
Poweramp is awesome, but uses a lot more CPU power, making the noise way louder than the pre-installed the music player.
Ultra-cheap but high performance audio is the Ruizu X02 flashed with AGPtek A02 1.7 firmware.
It can't rockbox but it does many of the features people like in rockbox anyway and the battery life is unbeatable.
Able to drive high ohm earphones and very little distortion at high end.
