Why does /g/ hate Unity? The Dash is hella comfy.
>>
There are hipsters here who hate anything that's mainstream-targeted and consumer-friendly.
>>
>>54190523
Because it's even more a memory hog than Windows
>>
>>54190523
Because KDE did it better whole looking better, too.
>>
>>54190523
It's resource intensive.
Having a window list anywhere but at the top defeats the purpose of having the taskbar at the top.
Retarded OS X derived window management.
>>
>>54191171
>Resource intensive

Works fine on my core2duo with 4gb of ram

I agree it would be pretty garbage on something like a netbook though.
>>
Lenses are superfluous. Gnome does search better.

Also, ugly taskbar.
>>
>>54190664

KDE for life nigga
>>
>>54190523
Every time I install ubuntu the reason I uninstall it is because of the shitty app drawer
>>

The truth is that /g/ hate everything.
>>
it's okay, but i feel having two bars just takes up too much space
>>
>>54190565
Hipsters are those who use amazunity and use the word "app" constantly.

Seeing screenshots like this are the only reason I keep installing it and every time its the app drawer that makes me uninstall
That thing is pure garbage especially if you use a trackpad or trackpoint
>>
>>54190565

No hipster worth his or her salt is going to be using gnu/linux; he/she will instead be using OSX or whatever the current Mac OS is.
>>
>>54190632
Last time I tried Ubuntu 15.10 it only used 550MB-600MB ram.

Windows 10 uses double that.
>>
>>54190523
I just like mate more. It's more comfy and intuitive to me. I don't like the app bar that isn't centered or shortens.
>>
>>54192852
what theme is that? looks nice.
>>
I tried to like it. The icons are way too big and it poorly tries to replace a file manager. Also, the dock looks pretty terrible. I'll stick with Cinnamon.
>>
>>54190523
I just like gnome better
>>
I don't hate unity, just retarded faggots who use the word "hella"
>>
synapse by itself is better than this
>>
>>54191218
Can confirm. Tried it on a netbook. Darn, that Compiz ground it to a halt.
>>
>>54192852
Are you actually clicking on it? Not using keyboard shortcuts?
>>

Looks like Numix and Numix-Circle.

It inherits the problems of GNOME without really being any better than GNOME2.

I don't hate it, but I'd much rather use KDE

Just like always.

>>
>>54190523
The only things I hate about Unity these days are the lack of cohesion when it comes to right click menus, the fact that the Dash isn't JUST the application launcher, you've got a bunch of other shit in there that gets in the way, and the fact that you can't choose launcher color, it's automatic based on wallpaper, although that one may be possible with unity-tweak-tool.
>>
>>54190523
I hate the dash board. I can't organise it like Windows 8(.1) Home Screen and everything is so messy, everything takes too much space, can't organize anything.

Ok guys. I have a problem.
Searching for files in Dash isn't working thou it's turned on in settings
Search in nautilus is working perfectly fine.

Am I missing something?

>>Sidebar is just straight up bad to work with
Can't confirm this. Works perfectly fine
>>
I see no point in having two bars when I could just have one that contains all the shit I care about.

Hence why I use XFCE and not Unity.
>>
>>54197880
This right here.

You either like it, or hate it.
A lot of the hate on unity is from people that have never actually used it for an extended period of time.
Personally, I started using it when it was just called "Netbook Edition" for my 9" 1024x600 netbook. It makes the best possible use of vertical screen real estate, which is at a premium on tiny screens and the modern widescreen meme.
>>
>>54195415
Thank you !
I just installed it,
this theme is awesome, best one on Unity and Ubuntu !
>>
>>54197880
This. Unity works perfectly.
Even on older machine (not too old tho, otherwise switch to Xubuntu)
>>
>>54191259
you're right, KDE is made for nigga
>>
>>54190565
>mainstream-targeted and consumer-friendly.
lel unity is not at all mainstream-targeted because it doesn't look like windows. They probably went for mainstream but went too heavy on the autism. Mint/cinnamon is better mainstream-targeted.

On a fresh boot, 16.04 is using 530MB, 525MB after purging disk cache.
echo 3 | sudo tee /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches

Fucking sick ass bro.

Unity isn't as bloated as I thought.

If baytrail support is better I might try it out

Because unity dock is retarded, because of it the way of minimising/maximising windows is also retarded

Dock<Taskbar

Also flat design is ugly, but unity takes to the next level of ugly

I wouldn't call NEET basement dwellers running gentoo "hipsters"

Also the only thing I really don't like about it is
>can't move bar to the bottom
>can't make the bar small and center so there's no extra blank space on the toolbar
>>
>>54195435
>>54198387
I think Unity 8 might fix these problems since it's based on QT5? But maybe if we're lucky we might get an working release by 2020? Seems like canonical has been working on Unity for a century.
