Note 6 guy, are you lurking? We have more questions for you!

(Sorry don't have the general pasta)

linking my previous post because I'm still not sure about getting a chinkphone.

I also read about a smartphone backed by uber a while ago, that had pretty nice specs for its price. Any news on that?

>Change DPI
>Now everything looks less shitty and oversized
Why companies have to force a blind-people sized stock DPI?
>>
>>54152466
I tried lowering DPI on my OPO and the icons look hideously jagged. What do? I really want to lower DPI but I can't stand the ugly icons.
>>
>>54152490
I assume is the stock launcher, just get Nova or another one.

There's nothing to worry about unless you go full retard and try changing your DPI to 120 or something that crashes all the system apps on launch.
>>
>>54152464

>using brute force on something that weighs less than 200gramms

Yeah, totally unexpected that it will crack.
>>
>>54152515
Yeah, stock launcher (running CM13). Using Nova will fix the jaggedness?

Also dumb question but does Nova (or any other launcher for that matter) drain battery? I would imagine yes but only marginally.
>>

Ok so I was going to receive a Nexus 6P but I cancelled the order due to it being delayed yet again (have to wait at least 8 weeks).

Now I've been looking around and now I'm really confused as to what to buy (lurked around previous thread too).

The Xiaomi Mi5 looks really nice and has a god tier SD820 with 3GB RAM. I'm kinda worried about the build quality (saw the bend test) and the warranty. It is dirt cheap for what you get though (so I can kinda forgive the flimsy bend quality).

Then there is the One plus 2. Nice phone, also dirt cheap and has a SD810. No NFC (which I dont think I'll be using in the near future) and no removable SD but thats not really an issue since 64GB is more than enough for me. It does have the better warranty for me since it is sold in the EU.

All I really want is a fast phone with a good camera.

looking for a non chink phone that'll give me the best gaming performance for $200
>>
is the moto g with 2gb ram still the go-to poorfag phone? I could get one for 170 euro.
>>
>>54152918
That's a good deal
>>
>>54152353
LG D851 on Fulmics, is there any rom more worth using? I prefer being able to use knock codes with the screen off
>>
>>54152999
I don't know much about smartphones though, the one I'm using right now is ancient but it just keeps on working, even after I dropped it in water once. Would a phone with a snapdragon 410 and 2 gb be able to play 720p videos well enough? What kind of stuff can I reasonably expect a phone like this to do? I could get the moto g or the wileyfox swift for about the same price, and it seems like they've got similar specs.
>>
>>54153083
At this point there's not really a phone over USD150 that is limited in anything other than gaming, which is shit anyway.
>>
>>54153083
I would go for whichever has better battery life for your uses. I have the 1gb model (2gb didn't come to Sprint) and it's been really good, plays video fine. There's also the BLU Life One X that competes for the price.
>>
>>54153083
>>54153142

Oh yeah and if you care about camera; the Moto G has a Sony IMX214 sensor which is widely used among midrange phones, and was improved with an update released for the camera app. The Wileyfox Swift has the same camera as the Redmi Note 3 Helio X10 and OPPO R7, but the Swift doesn't have phase detection autofocus.
>>
>>54153113
When you say gaming, do you mean android games or emulating? I think if I ever do game on it the most I'll do is get a snes/mame emulator, since I've got the actual consoles for everything I went to play past that point.

>>54153142
The moto g seems to have better reviews than the wileyfox at first glance, though their batteries seem to be about the same. Looks like the BLU life one X isn't sold on amazon europe, unless it's rebranded under another name.

>>54153360
So, the moto G would be the overall better choice here, if I understand right? It's only about 10 euro more expensive than the wileyfox, so price really isn't an issue in my decision. I mean, for this price I could also import a redmi 3 pro, but I just really don't know if that's such a good idea.

>dont like verizon, and its a gigantic bill
>really dont like my galaxy S6
>coworker wants to buy it from me, will allow me to pay phone off and end verizon service and make a small profit.

I already bought a cheap tracphone, so I have a while to do the actual switch, get a new carrier and get a new phone etc.

I want to go to a GSM carrier where I can buy whatever phone I want, and switch whenever I feel like.

I dont game, I dont use intensive apps.
I really only use a phone for internet browsing, and for a camera.

Are there any phones out there with a camera nearly the same quality of the S6 that are decently priced?
I really dont want to have a big downgrade in camera, but I dont have the money to buy a brand new flagship outright.
Im looking towards a used phone on Swappa and shit. I dont care if its a chinkphone either. I might even consider a Windows Phone or an Iphone if there are some really great ones
>>
>>54152918
You could look at the Zenfone 2 or G flex 2 at around 220 USD
>>
>>54153426
Both, depending on what you do with the emulator
But I think most emulators will run on on the 410 with no issues - not positive, but pretty sure

>>54153527
g flex goes for like 270 euro and nexus 5 goes for about 310 euro over here. Prices are always different than freedom land, only rarely in my favour. Thanks for the reccomendations though.

>>54153520
Yeah, I'd assume so. You could run Mame and snes on the first gen raspberrys pretty well, so I think something like this wouldn't be a problem.
>>
>>54153426
If you're considering the Redmi 3 Pro that's a quality alternative. The performance is over 50% better than the Moto G. If you like the aluminum feel and round build, the Redmi is a sleeker and much more premium feeling phone whereas the Moto G is more tactile. Personally I really liked the Moto G's back cover texture which is like a rubberized hard case with subtly corrugated lines for light grip. If you've never held it in person it's the same body as Moto X Play/Pure Edition. The Moto is also thicker overall in size.

Redmi has a unique Samsung Isocell that is an improvement over the Wileyfox's, and wiith updates coming to MIUI the camera app is much better now. 2.0/f, phase detection, single flash, macro capability, tap to focus vs Moto's 2.2/f, dual flash, drag to focus mechanism. Both have fast shutter speeds but I think the Redmi 3 camera is better overall.

MIUI is a good OS and if you can wait for a global rom, or flash your own custom one to get rid of some chinese-only apps (most people ignore them/put them into one folder), the chinese stable rom is good enough and it doesn't interfere at all with installing google play/services. The Redmi 3 has a really outstanding battery too. I used MIUI 7 for about five weeks and its stock apps didn't make me mad.

If you really prefer stock Android and a little bit thicker phone, decent camera, and don't mind charging daily then the Moto is good enough. You will likely get a warranty for it too.
>>
>>54153930
Damn, the redmi 3 pro actually sounds pretty good. It's just that I'm worried about how long I'll be able to use it, since chinese electronics still have that "zero updates, break after a year, shit build quality overall and horrible UI" stigma over here that's stuck with me for some reason.

Also the fact that I'd need to find one that imports either from an eu warehouse or where the seller uses some tricky shipping method to circumvent import costs. Because if I need to pay those it'll easily add 40 to 80 euro to the price, at which point I would have been better off buying a similar phone over here, with the added benefit of having warranty.
>>
>>54154056
Aliexpress can get it to you by DHL with no extra fees I think, a yuro in /csg/ could help confirm that, but I don't see any Redmi 3 Pro's listed yet. If it retails for $180 it will only be about $200-215 USD shipped. MIUI gets updates every week I think and the Redmi 3 has had its version updated that often according to the en.miui forums. There's a huge community for Xiaomi phones and with the SD 616 and 3gb ram the Redmi 3 would last a while.

Any advice related to the lenovo vibe k5 plus, it's pretty cheap on my country.
>>
>>54154340
I didn't realize HKGoldway had cheaper DHL, that's pretty good and they're a reputable seller for Xiaomi stuff. If you don't need a phone right this minute I would wait until either the Redmi 3 Pro becomes available on there or the Moto G4 gets officially announced. The Redmi 3 and 16gb Note 3 Pro have never gone out of stock so they shouldn't disappear.
>>
>>54154333
I got mine, he email me yesterday the payment confirmation and the receipt
>>
>>54154466
Well, if you're certain xiaomi stuff is good quality then I guess I might as well just wait until the redmi 3 becomes available. Any idea on when I could expect it to release?

It's not like I need a new phone right away anywho, my little samsung with it's 200 something mb ram and <1ghz single core cpu just refuses to die, not matter what happens to it.

I see a lot of discussion going on about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.

It looks like a great fucking phone but I also read horrorstories about the locked bootloader and ROM. I live in The Netherlands, if I buy a Redmi Note 3 from Honorbuy will I be fucked in some way?

What exactly is wrong with the default ROM? I don't care about dutch language (my english is fine) but I do want a dutch spelling check, that should be possible right?

Anything I should be wary of? I'm thinking of buying it since it looks better than the Oneplus X (or even the 2 for that matter).

Note 3 has global roms, and if you want there's the Snapdragon 650 version with 3gb ram/32gb rom, 16MP camera, and SD slot (Helio X10 Note 3 doesn't).

The rom that comes shipped will have all languages but it won't be an official Xiaomi rom, it won't receive OTA updates. What you do is flash it via fastboot without unlocking the bootloader with program called MiFlash.

The Asus flip cover has a circular hole which allows to check mail/message/missed call notification without opening the cover, and no custom ROM support that.

Nah, the application won't install over a custom ROM.

The best processor on the market right now is an Exynos. They're great if you don't go older than the S5 (S4 exynos sucked). It's just that they're locked down so developement is limited, that's why many don't like them.

No one knows the difference between 820 and 823, the rumors about 823 started going around a week ago or so. I suspect it'll be just an upgrade, like the 805 was to the 801.

Trying to switch to Android from iOS but I can't find a phone that doesnt have issues.

>6P
Shit audio out, slow camera, too big
>S7
Gaudy branding and software, no USBC
>LG G5
Just awful all around
>HTC 10
Just seems mediocre compared to the competition
>Z5C
Skinned android

Honestly the One Plus X is almost ideal but the battery sucks and the specs are outdated. Is there anything else I'm missing? Is there really no phone thats around 5 inches, has a solid build, stock or nearly stock android, minimal design with little branding, amoled screen and a flagship leading camera? I might just have to wait until apple finally uses amoled next year.
>>
>>54156643

Not only is Touchwiz extremely light on the S7, there's a Good Lock app that replaces systemUI with even more stock Android.

Don't really care about USBC cause fast wireless charging, and the branding is far less gaudy than anything Apple makes.

Two battery / longevity related questions

1. Is it ok to leave a phone charging overnight? Does it still lower battery capacity?
2. How often should you completely shut your phone off, and for how long?

I try to shut it down for at least an hour or two every few days, but I use it very often do it isn't consistent.

Is the OnePlus X worth getting? It works with my provider.
>>
>>54159222
Good SoC, cameras, check out reviews for battery life since it's 2,500mah. Otherwise it looks decent.
>>
>>54159180
>1. Is it ok to leave a phone charging overnight? Does it still lower battery capacity?

Now with Marshmallow and doze you will only lose like 2% of your battery overnight but that would count as a cycle and that may damage your battery life in the long run. I could be wrong though.

>2. How often should you completely shut your phone off, and for how long?

Restarting your phone weekly is something manufacturers usually suggest not completely shutting it down. I have no idea why would you do that.
>>
>>54159488
>No idea why you would do that

Because I was always advised to shut my computer down at least once a week, instead of just sleeping it all the time. A smartphone is essentially a computer, so it seemed logical to me.

God tier battery life? I've only seen people report average results i.e. 4-5 hours SOT. That's not exactly what I'd consider "god tier". I'm super picky with battery life. honestly with its specs I think so, but I only paid $99 for the 8gb model so it doesn't bother me. it's unfairly overpriced but only because there isn't a direct competitor; the body design and water-proof feature make it unique. the battery and camera only put it at or slightly greater than other mid-range offerings for the time.
