Is the i5-6600k worth it over the 6400 given that it costs 73$ more in my country? Mostly going to use it for gaming not that interested in OC either. Am i going to get buttfucked for not picking a cpu that clears 3 GHz stock?
>>
>>54131128
>skylakek
meme

you should get a i5-2500
>>
>>54131263
Well memed friend. However last gen CPUs are not available or are ridiculously overpriced where i live so thats not an option.
>>
>>54131128
>not that interested in OC
> looking to buy a k CPU

You probably can't comprehend just how completely retarded you look. It's all going on your mommy's credit card anyway, so just buy whatever CPU has the biggest number next to the "$" symbol.
>>
>>54131128
Just go all out and get an X99 Haswell-E setup. Intel CPUs are literally not getting any faster than that.

If you ever need muh corez you can just get an old second-hand Xeon in the future for pennies on the dollar.
>>
>gayming
You have to go back.
>>
>>54131128

You stupid op?
Do you need any of the features of the i7?
No? Then save the money. Yes? They obviously get on your knees and service Intel for the i7.

Or don't be a fucking cuck and buy a used sandy bridge workstation for less than half the cost that will destroy an overpriced memelake consumer build.

Or buy AMD, not as good, but at least you don't feel like you got ass fucked dry when you bought it.
>>
>>54131443
No, i know what an unlocked multiplier is, i have fiddled with OC before, not worth it imo from a stability perspective (also you have to burn more money on a decent motherboard). Thing is the k version is cheaper than the regular 6600 here hence why i ask if the performance difference between 6400/6600 justifies the price increase, if you don't have any input then kindly fuckoff.

>>54131573
Reading comprehension. Also like i said, last gen is not an option where i live.
>>
>>54131650

Have fun paying more for a slower computer then.
>>
>>54131573
>destroy
I don't think you know what that word means
>>
>>54131650
An over clocked CPU is just as stable as stock. Not sure where you got that idea.
>>
>>54131128
No way a z170 board costs more than $70 difference from a h170. Get the k, and z170 mobo. Go into uefi, set multiplier to 44, select "all cores." Now you have a stable, fast as fuck machine.
>>
>>54131573
what the fuck are you even on about? i7? fuck off.

>>54131128
it's worth it if you need or will need the performance which is likely if you play games. the stock 6600k has like 20% on the 6400 and with a light OC that'll go up even higher.

you do need to buy a cooler too though so calculate that in.
>>
>>54131128
Get the i5-6500, it's the best bang for buck.
>>
>>54131877
If this was true, then all CPUs would come overclocked.

Overclocking ALWAYS introduces a higher chance of instability.
>>
>>54132154
pretty sure turbo mode is on by default if you get a K prozessor these days and that's kind of an overclock, isn't it?
>>
>>54132260
Nope Turbo is on the non-K processors too and is very different from overclocking - mainly because the chips are designed for it.
>>
How is the I5 6600 compared to the k version?
>>
>>54131128
Yes it's worth it. Better performance. If you really CAN'T buy it. Than atleast buy the i5 6500 instead of the 6400 please. Get close to a better cpu as possible.
>>
>>54132154
Only if you go overboard.
>>
Don't buy Skylake, get Haswell instead. 4690 is the same price as a 6400 or even cheaper but you get more power.
>>
>>54132260

Yes, k still turbos. Stock is 3.5/ 3.9 turbo. K will allow you to have all cores running at 4.5 or whatever all the time if you want.
>>
>>54132437
You are full of shit. The 6600k is $244 vs. $224 for the 4690 right now. Why buy a slower CPU, with far less connectivity options right now?
>>
Thanks for the input, i think im gonna go with the FX8350 after all. Thanks.

>not getting ES Xeons
>>
>>54132148
This is what I did honestly. I'm also going to look into bclk overclocking if my mobo comes with that supported software.

I just don't like the features you lose with the bclk oc.
>>
>>54132815
intel jews have been clamping down on this. Supported motherboard BIOS that can do this have practically all been wiped out my mfgs
>>
>>54133393
This anon is right. I managed to get a ASUSTEK whatever it is called z170 motherboard with the bios version for BCLK over clocking

My i3 6100 is running stable at 4.6ghz. Might upgrade to an i7.
>>
>>54131263
>buy obsolete tech

uh, yeah okay
>>
>>54131128
it costs $50 more in the US

I grabbed one because I OC'd from the 3.5 to 4.2 currently, still doesn't go over 60 C
>>
>>54131974
this is what I did, z170 is based.
>>
>>54132732
>not having the correct, rare BIOS to run a es chip
>not having a chip that had been run to hell and back
Feels gud
>>
>>54133776
Chinkshit QS/ES-sellers have better warranty and return-deals than any of my local dealers
>>
>>54132583
Well you are a fucking idiot then. Enjoy your bottlenecks, faggot. I had a feeling that this whole thread was bait.
>>
>>54132479

Depends on where you buy, the non-K version is usually in clearance.
>>
>>54131128
If you're going for a 144hz display or plan on keeping the system more than 2 years, then yes. The problem is the 6600k also requires a z170 board and at minimum a 212 Evo cooler, meaning the platform price is significantly higher.

Also, avoid the i5-6400. The i5-6500 is clocked much higher and only $10 more expensive. Stick that on a cheap h110 board and you'll have a great platform.
>>
>>54132732
Bahaha, 2.5 GHz? Enjoy your AMD levels of single threaded performance.

>Mah Cores!
>Mah Threads!
Might as well have gotten an FX-9590 you fucking idiot. Unless you're running a server or rendering farm, you're not using that hardware.

Gigabyte Z170-HD3

Is this a good mobo for 6600k?
>>
>>54133629
>obsolete
>>
>>54134818
Gigabyte fell off if you're on a absolute budget or you can't order any other board then maybe.

I'd suggest the Asrock pro 4s its around the same price and its decent for a decent budget board.
>>
>>54134818
Unless you go ECS or Biostar, there pretty much are no "bad" Z170 mobos. So long as you get a DDR4 one, you're good. The feature you want is provided by the z170 chipset itself, and I haven't seen a z170 board with shit VRMs. I mean, the 6600k is only an 80W CPU if you ignore the TDP of the iGPU. If you're on a budget, just get the cheapest one with the featureset you are actually going to use.
>>
>>54134551
Are you even aware of how fast a xeon processor is? Gigahertz aren't everything.
>>
>>54134503
i got a msi z170 pro for like $80, 212+ is like $25 on sale
>>
>>54134992
don't be the special snowflake guy who buys zions
>>
>>54135063
I don't I'm running on an intel i5 sandy bridge, but to say xeon is a weak processor is just a lie. Xeons are by far the most powerful line of processors in the CPU market at the moment.
>>
>>54131650
I don't get it. Where the fuck do you live where you are not allowed to buy used CPUs? Is it Israel?
>>
>>54134992
Are you aware what CPU architecture is? You're talking about haswell. GHz is comparable over the same architecture because IPC is determined by architecture. The only thing you get with Xeons are extended instruction sets which no consumer would ever use and more cache, which only matters in workstation/rendering farms.

Do you even understand what you bought?
>>
>>54135097
Xeons are NOT the most powerful, not by a long shot. Sure the CPU has a ridiculous amount of performance available, but only if what you're doing can make use of the 24 threads. Only a handful of programs actually can, and they're all rendering, number crunching, multiple server VMs, and that kind of stuff. No end consumer would make use of that right now. Not even someone wanting to start their own youtube channel would get that unless they're actually going to get a dedicated rendering server to offload work from their main rig.
>>
>>54135192
TL;DR you're falling for the AMD multicore meme harder than AMDtards.
>>
>>54135097
>Xeons are by far the most powerful line of processors in the CPU market at the moment

In specific, heavily-threaded workloads, sure. Their single thread performance is trash compared to the much higher-clocked desktop chips though.
>>
>>54135192
>Only if what you're doing can make use of 24 threads

Uh, practically fucking everything does. Your games like Memeout 4 and The Shitter 3 don't exactly constitute as 'all programs'.
>>
>>54135246
>ons are by far the most powerful line of processors in the CPU market at the moment
To be fair, some Xeons actually are clocked fairly high. Last gen the Xeon 1231 V3 was a great option because it clocked even higher than comparable desktop i5 CPUs. It was such a great seller that Intel locked the Xeon 1230 V5 to server only chipsets to prevent it from stealing sales from their desktop core series.
>>
>>54135249
>Uh, practically fucking everything does.

Bahahahahaha

oh wait, you're serious?

BAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!!!!
