A software engineer in my team doesn't know how to clean up her computer filled with malware. Should I get my boss to fire her?
>>
>>54087354
Why? That's really a problem for IT, not for the engineering team.
>>
Help your co-worker and build better friendship. If this isn't related to the work itself, then there is nothing wrong with not knowing how to remove malware on computers. Software engineering is not IT support.

This. Only solution is reformat
>>

Visual Studio is pretty helpful m8
>>
Snitches get stitches

Now fuck off loser.
>>
>>54087449
Useful for what?
Vim + gcc is both easier to use and more flexible
>>
>>54087470
Debugger.
>>
>>54087498
Expain?
>>
>>54087470
When you finally get a job and have to actually collaborate with other people on a team you will understand.
>>
>>54087470
That's fucking great, now keep dicking around at home with your "hobby" instead of working with others.
>>
>>54087517
Not him, but I've actually had many jobs. One of them I used Visual Studio.

It's neat, but you need a gazillion plugins for it to be great.

>>54087498
A visual debugger is not really rocket science. When doing C or C++ on Linux, I use Eclipse CDT as frontend for GDB.
>>
>>54087470
Depending on your job, an IDE can really help your workflow. Visual Studio just happens to be the best IDE. If you don't need one than good for you
>>
>>54087530
>>54087517
>working with others
>doesn't think git is more essential than what shitty editor/IDE you use
I guess you two are the sort of people who thinks putting project files and build files in to the source repo is a good thing, don't you?
>>
>>54087530
>>54087517
Elaborate. Why would working in a team be better with VS?

>A software engineer in my team doesn't know how to clean up her computer filled with malware. Should I get my boss to fire her?
Is her job a PC janitor (abbreviated IT) ?
>>
>>54087404
I would have hoped a "software engineer" isn't retarded enough to catch malware.
Guess she comes from a good education system.
>>
>>54087354
Cleaning a computer from malware is a job for an IT monkey, not an engineer

>tfw when I was an IT monkey
>tfw when I dropped out of uni to become an IT monkey
>tfw when I resumed uni but it's so hard dealing with depression

Don't become an IT monkey guys.
It's soul crushing.
>>
>>54087574
>>54087656
Productivity. Which is not important for poorfags but very important for those of us who have a job.
>>
>>54087835
Every job is soul crushing. At least IT guy is easy.
>>
>>54088095
You're avoiding the question. How does VS make you more productive, and how specifically is that improving your teamwork?

That image explains why they never use a new engine, and most of their shit is optimized as hell.
>>
>>54087379
If you don't know how to use a computer you aren't qualified to write code.
>>
>>54087457
I was thinking this exact thing. OP sounds like a brown noser.
>>
>>54088907
>hurr durr if you don't know specifically all the locations and startup scripts and registry entries the malware has added itself to, you aren't qualified to do web development

>This one girl doesnt spend her life on a computer like me
>Women scare me
>>
>>54087354
I'm pretty sure you can't properly get rid of malware too. Best and easiest solution is to reformat and that's definitely not the work of a programmer, but IT department.
>>
>>54088907
If you can't explain to how the initial TCP window on Linux is set without having to Google it, you shouldn't be using your network connection.
>>
>>54088968
Are you saying it would be hard to find out? It isn't. If you can't be assed to do so then you can always reformat and verify if the malware is gone.

If you don't know basic computer care, and basic computer maintenance then why should anyone trust your ability to write code for a computer? Let alone trust your code is secure.
>>
>>54089068
She isn't being paid to find out, she's being paid to engineer software.
>>
>>54089068
>Are you saying it would be hard to find out?
Do you realize there's quite a big kind of business that flourishes because malware is not an easy to get rid off?

> If you can't be assed to do so then you can always reformat and verify if the malware is gone.
As an owner of HW maybe, but I if a programmer has a company hardware, it's not his job to reinstall OS and all SW on it. Not to mention he's not getting paid for it.
>>
>>54087470
No code completion.
Regex shit is not code completion.
>>
>>54089110
This

>>54089068
Please justify why a software engineer should spend company paid time doing something that isn't her job just because "it's not hard".
>>
>>54089110
>It is fine if I infect the network, because I am not paid to be responsible.
If you fuck up, you take responsibility and deal with it. Shocking concept I know. If she knows her machine is infected and refuses to address that she is a liability.
>>
>>54089145
>no code completion
YouCompleteMe

There's also GCC-based plugins, similar to how Eclipse does it.
>>
>>54089145
>>54089164
Also, ctags and cscope

>>54089163
desu if your company has an IT dept, then just push a new image from AD and wipe the old installation
>>
>>54089147
This. My boss doesn't even allow us to waste time on that.
>>
>>54089195
Agreed that pushing a new image is the fastest fix, but OP is making it sound like they are responsible to maintain their own machines because they lack an IT department.
>>
>>54089163
You know you sound like a really nice person? At first you accuse her she doesn't know how to clean up her computer and now you're saying she just doesn't care? She's at fault, but if you come to her like you come here and complain, of course she's going to laugh you out out of her workplace.

Try to be a less annoying nigger and maybe people will listen to you.

software engineer is an actual job and it sits a couple rungs (or branches) above your average codemonkey.

save it for environmental """""engineers""""".

Engineering= designing of SYSTEMS.

A software program is not a system. An actual PC is. Hence the name "system"

protip: one set of quotation marks is sufficient for communicating sarcasm. Going above and beyond and putting half a dozen on each side doesn't add anything except to visually break the flow of someone's reading, and to communicate that you're a faggot.

Wrong, friend. The degree of sarcasm increases linearly with the number of quotation marks.
>>

Malware removal is the domain of the sysadmin and I.T. proper, OP, not the end-user, no matter what their technical skills are.

1. Someone whose job is to keep computers healthy and free of malware is far more likely to succeed at the task, avoiding unnecessary situations that could destroy the entire business, like with cryptolockers. (The fact that you've indicated your development environment is Windows (disgusting) makes you far more vulnerable to this.)

Why have a DBA when your developer can Google SQL queries? Because having someone who "knows" what they're doing makes a difference you fucking idiot.

2. It's a productivity killer to have employees do things outside of their expertise and job description. Shouldn't this developer be doing tasks that add value to your business?

Oh but wait, it's not "your business", because you're just another wage slave with no sense of management.
>>
>>54093964
>The degree of sarcasm increases linearly with the number of quotation marks.
Wrong. It doesn't fulfill the homogeneity property of superposition principle, so it cannot be said it behaves in linear fashion.
>>
>>54088907

dude, the IT guys get payed to take care of that shit. The coders get payed to code and SE to manage software projects

now, do your job and shut the fuck up

Depends on the size of the object files and how long it would take to build them from source.
>>
