What do you want it for?
>>
>>54087152
For School, surfing the web and playing lol, just casual things.

I picked up a high spec Thinkpad x220 in an eBay auction for 200 euro.
After removing bloatware and configuring settings I got 6 hours of battery with a 70% capacity 6 cell battery, 5 hours if I'm shitposting and downloading stuff in the background.
I got a 9 cell this week and it lasts 10 hours when I'm shitposting and downloading stuff.

If you want power and good battery I'd recommend the x220. It's the best meme I've ever bought. The keyboard is great too.

how much did you pay for battery? Link?

Just go to your local pawnshop. I did and got a Sony with i5-3210m and 6gb of RAM for like $200-250
>>
>>54087068
Find a used business laptop. They're cheap, but since they're business laptops they're probably not broken in any way and still work.

Thinkpads is a good starting point, but Dell business laptops are good too
>>
>>54087260
The battery was straight from lenovo, so it was around 120 euro for me. Possibly less if you want to get it elsewhere. But that's only if you need more than 6 hours immediately, you can always upgrade later. Either way, it's still inexpensive and I like seeing the battery gauge continually showing 10 hours and going up to 13 when I'm just working out of matlab or atom.

Here's the link:

Also, I'd pretty much urge you to get it. I love my thinkpad so much that I often use it even at home where I have a 1800 euro desktop setup.

I also have a fedora partition that worked completely out of the installation. No searching for drivers etc.

Sorry if I sound like a shill, I'm not.

And the other thing is that I now have two batteries that I can change for up to 15 hours of battery with fairly intense use.

I also have a HP Prime on the way, anyone have one?

Thanks, I've been looking for new laptop.

I've quit gaming in university and probably need something nice and long lasting for work. (x220 and T420)

But I'd like to have computer that would run AutoCAD just in case I would need to do that. (Mech. Eng here)

I found a x230 for 200 euro on ebay, I think you're retarded m8.

I'm not in the US, they're more expensive here.
Plus, my one has the highest specs, I think it's around 1,400-1,600 new. Don't give af m8. I have a crazy college grant too so I can afford to waste the money kek

>>54087468
I can't offer opinions on AutoCAD, I'm a mathematician so I have no real need for the power, it's just nice to have. Hence why I spend a lot of money on graphing calculators; I just like messing about with them.
What exactly would AutoCAD need? I can quickly check some specs if you want them.
>>
>>54087631
I'm not from US either I've said EURO - I am from Romania and I found the x230 in amazon.co.uk.
The transport is peanuts in price..

Laptops are shit, and horrible to use.

2 in 1 tablet transformer styles are a better buy for casual usage.
>>
>>54087761
I had a newer and a much more expensive laptop that I replaced with x220. It runs Fedora Plasma spin snappy af, and faster than my other laptop. Nd this is without any extras. I wonder how better it will get once I add in more RAM and an SSS.
>>
>>54087822
Or building your own mini itx computer.
A pc with latest i3-6100 ssd 8 gb ram and all goodies that in full load consumes 92 w costs you 430 usd maybe you can find cheaper deals for parts.
+ It's small you can mount it on the back of your monitor or transport it around with ease.
>>
>>54087891
>It's small you can mount it on the back of your monitor or transport it around with ease.
This is all useless since your monitor is not portable. Foldable screens when?

I was the same, I gave my old laptop to my brother. It was a new lenovo model I bought for about 800 because it looked sexy and I didn't know any better.

Do you have a 9-cell battery?
I'd make that you're first upgrade if you are using an old battery. (you can check capacity and cycles in the advanced battery manager)

I don't ever think about charging mine even when I'm torrenting porn over my wifi.

I'm another guy who has an X220.
Perfect laptop. An absolute steal at 230 CAD.
>>
>>54087956
Join the 9-cell crew son, doesn't get any better than an x220 with a new 9-cell
>>
>>54087920
So what? You can still mount it and free space on desk - I don't get your logic m8....

>>

Point is you can't really transport it around line you said. Well you can, but unless you already have a monitor waiting for you at the place where you're going, it's pretty much useless to transport it. Tho I do like the fact that it isn't bulky and doesn't take up much space
>>
Thinkpad X220/T420

>>54088074
And very powerful, + low energy consumption - there are 0 reasons to ever close it down while also in full load. You'll only get peanuts on electricity bill.

>>
>>54088165
How many peanuts are we talking here. My current build is humongous and just the processor is around 80W
>>
>>54087631
Its more of a question whether it requires dGPU or not and does processor and integrated graphics of x220 handles it.

There's two x220 at local store.
279€ i5-2520M 2.5GHz; 4GB; 12.5" (1366x768)
299€ i5-2540M 2.6GHz; 4GB; 12.5" (1366x768)

I'm not very fond of the screen resolution - what are your thoughts?
>>
>>54088209
In my country it would me equivalent of max 12 usd / month for full load 92 w day / night.
It might even be 6 usd... depends on many factors.

But still you have an amazing powerful pc or server.
>>
>>54088431
never pay more than 220 eur for neither x230 or x220

If it has 4 gb ram good you cna upgrade that with 30 usd / 4 gb.

This program sounds like it belongs on a desktop primarily.

The processor would handle it easily but I'm not sure about the graphics. I done a quick search and found this discussion:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/x220-s-HD3000-Performance-in-CAD-3d-Modeling/td-p/470925

Apparently it's not great but it will do the job.

>>54088431
Is there any memory on details?
I'd say to go for it, it's not too expensive. I have the i7 2620m and apparently there's only a slight difference between the i7 and i5.

>>54088448
>never pay more than 220 eur for neither x230 or x220
That's new to me, why not when they're a fortune new?

Sounds a little heavy on the price anon.
>>
>>54088529
T420s - 483€
i5-2540M 2.6 GHz; 8GB RAM; 14.1" 1600 x 900 HD + LED TFT; 160GB SSD

T420 - 491€
i5-2520M 2.5 GHz; 8GB RAM; 14.1" 1366 x 768; 500GB SSD

The fuck is this normal?
>>
>>54088431
Go with a i5-3320M 250 eur x230 instead.
and x220 with a it-2520 should not cost more than 180 eur.
>>
>>54088600
That's quite overpriced for second hand
>>
>>54088641
Damn 4chan upped the prices with recommendations. baka senpai
>>
>>54088600
Why not check eBay?
>>
>>54088665
x or t?
>>
>>54088775
I'd say x because the t is quite a bit heavier and you get less battery
