The only worthy AMD card is a used 290X, but I wouldn't do that anymore. Coming cards will feature this performance in the mainstream class with much lower consumption. Also I doubt the 650 owner has a PSU than can handle such a card.

They are weak AF, even a 970 will be garbage in a year or so now that next-gen API's unleash the capabilities of AMD cards. Nvidia at least will have a huge leap with pascal in the new APIs but the current one will be sacrificed, people will buy new ones anyway so they lose nothing i guess.

I had a gtx 960 (2gb) and sold it just two days ago with guaranty and all but in two months i wouldn't have got even half as much for it, borrowed a GT 630 from a friend so i can play cs and things like zoo tycoon 2 while i wait for Polaris and Pascal, depends how well will they perform i might go for 1060 or 480 or, if they won't get a good enough boost (50% performance over actual versions) i'll consider 1070 and r9 490

No I'm not, you fucking idiot. If you're not getting a locked 60fps with a 980 Ti then something is SERIOUSLY wrong with your setup. The ultra preset runs at a locked 60fps just fine on a 780. Of course, the ultra preset doesn't have every single setting maxed out. If you turned on the dumb PhysX garbage manually then that's your problem, since it tanks the framerate and looks like shit.

I have a 780 (overclocked as well, but just to stock ASUS settings) with an i5 4690k and 16GB of decent ram, and I seem to average in the high 30s-low 40s on Ultra and above 60 on High.
I'm planning on waiting for the next generation before I upgrade, especially with how soon it'll be coming out. I mostly want a new card for eventual VR, though.
I am about to build my first pc ever.
Would it be wise for me to buy a 960 instead of the current 970/390, and use the 960 as a placeholder for 980s once they go down in price? Im gonna be honest, I am kind of a nvidia shill because I have used their products my whole life and they always work great for me.

I have a Radeon HD 6950 from like four-ish years ago. I bought DaS3 on PC and I have to run it on the lowest settings at 720p to get ~45fps consistently. I wanted to play Battleborn with my friends yesterday and was unable to.
I know the Pascal cards are coming out in about two months, but that's another two months I won't be able to really enjoy a lot of games. Do I suck it up and get a 390 like I want to? Or do I stick it out for two months and continue playing osrs and LoL? Will the price drop(s) be that significant on the current cards? How much will the Pascal cards be?

Since I run a three monitor setup, I figure the 390 would be the best option for me. Even though the Pascal cards are coming out in ~2 months, I don't think I'll really regret getting a new card right now since the 390 should last a good couple years as far as I'm concerned. I probably won't even save that much money when the new cards come out, right? I can't imagine the price drop would be that significant.
