Does anyone know where I can buy replacement keycaps for a Razer BlackWidow?

I bought my BlackWidow in the US, but I live in the UK and I prefer the UK layout. Is there anywhere that I can buy keycaps so I can switch them out on my keyboard to match the UK locale? The keycaps ideally need to be the same as the stock razer ones; black, and allows backlighting

>>54051719
Find out how the matrix is set up and connect the rows and columns to the teensy (one row or column per pin). The rest is a matter of programming the firmware. Matt3o has a good tutorial on this.

That's what I need help with
How do I figure out how it is set up
>>
>>54052041
Follow those traces on the PCB from the pins at the top to their end and see how they're connected. They should be arranged in columns (vertical) and rows (horizontal), either the columns or the rows (most likely the rows) will be connected with diodes. Follow all those routes and note which pin at the top of the PCB connects what row or column.

If your PCB is two sided (what I'm guessing by the looks of it) you'll have to check on both sides to see how things are connected.

It's not exactly an easy job, but that's part of the fun.
>>
>>54052101
I was hoping I wouldn't have to remove all the switches, the diods are actually soldered inside the switches.
oh well
I guess that is needed.
>>
>>54052133
>I was hoping I wouldn't have to remove all the switches, the diods are actually soldered inside the switches
You don't. Just look at the traces in the PCB and use a multimeter to test the direction in which the current flows with the diodes.

>>
>>54051253
Fs and Ms have the same travel and key construction. They take the same stems and caps. The only real differences are the F uses capacitive hammers (something you can't see or feel) and lighter springs.
>>
>>54054595
(well, the M has a rubber mat under the hammers too, but that only affects the sound)
>>
>>54054595

Actually, the flippers are much larger and wider, giving a larger contact area, more feel and louder sound.

The caps are also one piece on Fs, while many (but not all) Ms have two-piece designs.

I'm jumping on the bandwagon, but cannot decided red or brown. I play vidya and have it in my head that brown would be good for rapid pressing. I've also read many times people who use red swearing up and down it's straight up the best.

I'm using some default dell pos I found somewhere or something, and I've had enough of it's shit. You probably know the exact one. I'm wondering if brown's will be quieter than this thing.

I also have a feeling reds will be just fucking fine for gaming and as quiet as I want them.

The difference is merely a bump, correct? I'm hoping some people will give me their opinions.

Both M and F models use one and two piece caps. Which they shipped with depended on target application.
>>

>Actually, the flippers are much larger and wider, giving a larger contact area
There's no contact area. They're capacitive.
>more feel and louder sound.
That's the lack of the rubber mat.
>>
>>54055072

Do you think it uses fairy dust to send a signal? Of course it has contact area, it's just directly onto the capacitive board instead of a membrane.

The larger hammer, thicker metal, lack of dampening and springs all impact key feel.

I love silent, flat/low travel keys, currently have a K800 which just broke and needs replacement.
Would a mechanical keyboard suit me or would I just hate it?

I don't know anyone who's got one and there's no place to have a look at them before.
But all the talk about clicky clacky kind of spooks me. I know there's non clicky ones. And all seem to have a pretty large travel distance.

So I just found one of these at a local used electronics store for $5 so of course I bought it. The problem is that the keyboard was fucking filthy and disgusting all over so I took off all the keys and cleaned those. I also decided to take apart the rest of the keyboard and basically removed everything. There was a silver metal sheet at the base of it attached to a terminal on the circuit board, and it's covered in what I assume is rust? It doesn't really look like rust, though. It's going to be a real pain to clean. Anyways, I was wondering what exactly it does as part of the keyboard. The membranes sit on top of it. I'll upload a pic in a few minutes.
>>
>>54058508

Except the flipper does strike the plate to close the switch. Do you think plastic feels the same to tap on as metal? How about a thin sheet of foil vs iron bars?

You saying "lalala no it's not" doesn't negate the physics of a different shape and material.

If you'd like to actually learn about why this is, make a thread on GH or DT. Plenty of others will confirm exactly what I'm saying.

Idiots. Cherry MX is the superior switch.

The notion that they feel like they have dirt in them is ridiculous.
>>
>>54064096
You're not the only person bothered by this trend. I've invested several hundred dollars into Cherry MX keyboards and it irks me when the same 3 fagots talk shit about them, trying to make them unpopular or seem like they are no longer the best.

Cherry MX switches were the top mechanical switch for two decades and suddenly, after the patent expires, they all of a sudden have dirt in them magically. No one was complaining about Cherry MX feeling like they had dirt in them until the patent expired. I can't believe people are falling for this bullshit.

Obvious smear campaign is obvious.

IBM 8808 wireless keyboard circa 2001. Runs on 4 AAAs with a maximum range of 10 feet. Didn't get the mouse unfortunately, but even as minimally laggy as the keyboard is I don't think a wireless optomechanical mouse would be very good for modern use.

Mechanically, it's based on the 8806 keyboard, included stock with most IBM desktops of the period. Gonna use it with my TP 600X and Presario 5000, both of which run Win98 and absolutely hate my Corsair K65.

It's not mechanical, but it's in great shape and works beautifully. Very nice to type on as well, but I'm faster and more accurate on my Cherry ML4100. The key texture has surprisingly not worn out despite what is obviously many years of use, judging from the darkened key legends around the WASD area.

What kind of lube is used? Silicone? Are the shafts made of polyamide?
I ask because idiots might try to use WD 40 or another petroleum-based lubricant, which might destroy the ABS plastic of the switch housings.
>>
>>54075412
Stems are POM and housings are usually nylon, although im not sure about transluscent ones. I would guess policarbonate.

But, yeah, silicone lubes are the ones people recomend, krytox most of times. Clicky ones shouldnt be lubed though, as they probably will loose their clickness.

Depends on what kind of switches they are. Cherry and clone stuff is very abundant on Aliexpress, but buckling spring parts are easy to get from Unicomp.

ALPS stuff is considerably harder to find, so second-hand donor boards or parts from mechmarket/boards are probably the best source.

Just finished lubing/assembling this one. Still waiting for some solder equipment, but this far I'm happy with how it turned out.
It has 65g lubed, stickered vintage clears (little smoother than todays) and is inside a GON Skinny 60%. I really like that case this far. Very light weight, but still really solid.

I'll have to switch to ANSI-Layout though, since I'm not used to ISO anymore. I hope the JTK Black on Orange mods will fit it nicely, but I feel like the different shades of black will ruin everything. Too bad I missed Skidata+...

"mechanical keyboard PCB" and "mechanical keyboard case" give you some, can dig through the seller inventories and feedback to see what you like.
Including the number of keys or layout (82, 60%, TKL) will give you different results, too.

You can find the plate, PCB, case, switches, caps and cables on there, but look around and figure out what kind of controller you want to use. That might be better found elsewhere.

Yeah, sure if your neighbour has paper-thin walls and uses a very specific wireless keyboard.
>>
>>54077274
Keep in mind that I linked this as a proof of concept. I'm sure that something similar can be built for many other wireless keyboards. The potential is there. The neighbor thing was just an example. This can be used discretely, e.g. a modification of it that's battery powered in your backpack/pocket in some place with wireless keyboards idk. The point is that there's the potential for someone to steal information from you if you're using an unencrypted wireless keyboard, especially in a public setting.
