My gtx 460 lasted 4 years before it couldnt handle anything at 1080p
Have the Gtx 760 now and it cant even run fucking Dark Souls III
>>
I bought a 770 for cheap, not a gimped card at all - as good as that particular silicon gets.

Sucks to be you if you bought an original Titan, though. Those people got cucked hard.

>>54036457

750 Ti is technically a 700 series card, but it'd be an 800 series card if Nvidia wasn't so retarded (early Maxwell). Doesn't count imo.
>>
i'm biased towards radeon but many benchmarks show that nvidia hasn't gimped the 700 series but they don't optimize either.
>>
Where does the "gimping" meme come from? Sure they could optimize a little better but most driver benchmarks show performance increasing over time for older games.
>>
>>54036419
I bought a brand new 780 on the cheap last October and have been pretty happy with it famalam. Got a nice 35% overclock out of it and it performs at ~970 levels. Not sure what the problem is, other than it using a ton of power.

I run my 770 on older drivers based on benchmarks of the games I play. You don't have to cuck yourself out by getting the latest drivers, you know they're not optimizing any code at this point.
>>
>>54036864
That's a result of AMD's drivers being complete shit at launch and slowly improving over time, whereas Nvidia launched a new architecture and stopped making optimizations for Kepler. The performance of the AMD cards has relatively improved since launch due to newer drivers. Kepler hasn't changed, so "gimped" is entirely the wrong word. "Abandoned" maybe, but then AMD would likely have abandoned GCN by now too had they come up with a new architecture. They dropped support for most TeraScale cards about six months before Windows 8 came out. I remember, because I owned a 4870 at the time and there was never an official Windows 8 driver for it, and the Windows 7 one was buggy as shit when force-installed.
>>
>>54036943
I need dat vulkan support and ability to support newish xorg.
>>
Nvidia optimizes their drivers more than AMD; their cards are almost reliant on the optimizations. So when Nvidia releases a new card, you can see the actual performance for a while. The truth is 960 isn't a lot more powerful than 760, maybe 5%.

But once new games come out nvidia just drop the optimization for old cards, resulting in a large leap in performance to the new cards. Of course they want you to buy a new card, but you know the same will happen the next generation.

AMD might be doing the same, but to a smaller extent where it's not as noticeable at all.

They dont really optimize for many GNU/Linux games to begin with, unless they are Opengl Games on windows, like serious sam 3.
Most "aaa" games on linux are shitty rushed ports from DX to opengl.

I'm glad they're still updating it, probably just crossfire profiles and basic shit, but it's still something.

Sell it and buy an a8 7650k. They're really cheap now, quad core, and killer igpu.

50 aud cheaper than an i3 last time I checked.

That looks like a really potent processor for that price, and that power consumption - so low amazing - I'm considering making an Mini ATX build and this just serves for that.

Thank you man.
>>
>>54041912
In aus, you can even get an a8 7600(no oc though) for as little as $110.

For comparison, the g3258 was selling for $90 and an i3 is $180(iirc). Haven't looked at prices in a while so I might be wrong. Helped my friend finish his build last month so these prices are from what I saw then
>>
>>54041943
Well I've read reviews on oc and pretty much everyone can keep it 4 ghz with no problems, some got shittier silicon and have drops in frequency when they have high workloads in 4.2.. but 4 is more than what I need.

Any tip for a cheap cooler - considering I'll OC.

The shop I want to buy it from will give me a CPU Segotep Frozen Tower T2 Plus for free - but I don't know jack shit about that company - used Noctua until now and I'm very satisfied with what I got.
>>
>>54041779
Well, since the 2GB and 4GB versions cost just about almost the same, there wasn't much reason to grab a 2GB one. May as well go with the one that can handle bigger textures better.
>>
>tfw you bought a 390 the week of release because you knew DX12 would perform better on AMD cards

>implying the human eye can see more than 3.5 gigamemes anyway
>>
>>54041989
Gammax 300 is the cheapest decent one that comes to mind, but feel free to shop around.

A cheap cooler with 2 fans can be really effective, in using an a1-v10 I got for 30 aud and it's keeping my i7 870 below 80 degrees at 4.2GHz/1.4v. According to tomshardware that's a 240w tdp. (correct me if I'm wrong). My i7 goes up to around 77-78 degrees during Intel burn test.

One push, one pull, still yield amazing results.
>>
>>54036621

>that feeling when exchanging your 760 Phantom 2GB by a 960 Phantom 4GB and all of a sudden you only need to plug in 1 PCIe x6 PIN for power supply

I was euphoric at that Moment. Having a GPU powerful enough for Crysis at 1080p with only 1 Power cord - fucking one Power cable, I repeat myself, I did not have this since the ATI Radeon HD 4850 so many years and cards ago..
>>
>>54040353
Yes, and it'll be the last driver ever for pre-GCN cards and is a beta-quality release. The previous release, and the final non-beta, WHQL-certified driver for anything before GCN, is from July last year.

>As a courtesy to our valued supporters we are providing a final Beta driver together with the release of the AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition. The AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition Beta driver includes the redesigned user interface as well as some enhanced features. More information can be found in the AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 for Non GCN Products Release Notes. This driver is provided "as is" and will not be supported with further updates, upgrades or bug fixes.

They actually did the same thing when they dropped the 4000 series in 2012. Shoveled out a final beta driver that was buggy as shit and added nothing.
>>
>>54040270
then get Windows 10 and Microsoft Toolkit, install it on a separate Drive/Partition and live on, it's like you WANT bad performance
