I've never been a fan of mini-itx, I made a build in '08 and it always had heating problems. They are hard to work in as well, now it would be easier if you could get an m.2 card and maybe an all in one water cooler it would be decent.

Ncase M1
z170 itx mobo + skylake i7

I reckon I need to do a mini-ITX build, transportablitity for between home in the holidays and uni
any new architecture out soon that I should wait for?
>>
ncase m1
i7-6700k and z170 mobo
980ti or whatever newer shit is better
custom water loop for cpu+gpu (noise pls go)
biggest m.2 ssd i can get to boot from
another big ssd or two for vidya and shit

wish there was an itx board with thunderbolt so i could add on big storage using a scary fast external raid system (like the macfags have)

might actually do this build though, need an upgrade later this year and i don't see much point sticking with socket 2011

Don't forget to install Gentoo or all of /g/ might die from a stroke!

Actually, I'm going to build something like that someday. I already have one HP Microserver and soon there's going to be another, then all I'm going too need is miniITX gaming system.
>>
I've got a mini-itx build but it's largish by modern itx standards because it's a CM Elite 130. But I like that it has space for a full-sized gfx card so I'm not limited. It's also got an ivy bridge cpu in it so it needed to be big enough for cooling. AIO water cooler. My next build will probably be similar, with a half-size GPU since I game infrequently and only need it for madVR.

How do you rate that Noctua cooler mang?

I have a Corsair H105 on a 4790k at 4.7GHz in my N-CASE, the pump whine annoys the fuck out of me but I'm sceptical of being able to keep my OC temps under control on air.

Can you fit a fan on the side bracket too or does that noctua take up all the height clearance?

I already have:

It was good, that cooler with both fans running into one ULNA adapter made it inaudible, if a bit warm.
At higher/ normal speeds cooling is good.

I honestly don't know why everyone builds on mid towers anymore if you are going to have a single gpu and don't need extra bays.
I have a corsair 400r "mid tower" thats huge and I hate it.
I'm thinking of building an mATX or mITx gaming pc, just waiting for pascal. Anyone recommend a good mATX case under $100?
I want something that can fit any single gpu and atx psu + 1 ssd+ 2hdd, I don't need optical drives. I was thinking of the corsair air 240. This mITX builds look really good but I'm not comfortable having all my components next to each other like that. I want something that's not to hard to build with and has good airflow.
>>
Anyone using a 250D, What fan configuration do you use?

I was thinking 200mm pull in the front for low noise and high airflow and two 120mm push on the side wth a 240mm rad.
>>
>>54035144
sell me your ncase m1 when you buy the a4-sfx.
>>
>>54038313
Get the Core 500 like in >>54033460
The air from the GPU is isolated and has it's own filtered air intake. Might as well be outside the case. Temps are no problem, and you can fit pretty much any CPU cooler you want form a large dual tower to a 280 AIO if you don't mine losing the front 5.25" bay.

I wouldn't build a mITX rig because I actually like computers.

mITX is only for normies who want a console that has better graphics. They don't care that they're practically frying their components in those tiny cubes that have poor ventilation.

You can't run more than 1 GPU, you can't really overclock anything because everything is nearly melting/throttling with factory clock settings, you can't really have any expansion to your system. You are just left with a PC that's easy to pick up, as if picking up a modern aluminium case ATX computer is too much.
>>
>>54042614
I actually like computers too, that's why I have multiple
>>
>>54042614
I have heard so many people bitch about itx cooling and the truth is they cool just fine with the right components.
You are right about the overclocking on some itx builds but tons of itx cases can support liquid or fan cooling adequate enough for ocing
some people like the challenge of building high end neat little builds.
Just deal with it hombre.
Most enthusiasts can enjoy computers big and small.

I can tell you haven't built an ITX rig recently/ ever.
There's plenty of cases that allow for water cooling while being tiny, Ncase M1 is a good example.
One 240 is fine for an OC'd CPU and something like a 980, but if you really want to you can shoehorn two 240's in there if you want.
Or you can go bigger with a Nano S or something and fit even more cooling capacity in.

Fair warning though--it's HUGE with a fuck-huge footprint.

It's ideally the same size as the Node 304, and that case was always too big for my liking.
