I've been doing this for over a year basically daily.
No eye cancer yet and my glasses are for distance (anything past ~20 feet is a bit blurry) i have no problems with reading distance.
my main problem is that the new kindle is basically the same as the regular paperwhite model plus an battery pack

I considered a Kindle, but then I noticed I couldn't even get one in my country without jumping through hoops, and then I started to see the big bezels and the stuff with Amazons own ebook format or whatever.

The Kobo seems good at what it does, and I doubt there are a lot of features that one would need, after all, I'm just reading a book, but a bigger screen would be fairly nice. I have a 5 inch screen on my phone and I could never consider reading anything off it, a 6 inch screen seems really small too.

i don't know, i've used 6 inch devices only (first a nook simple touch then a kindle paperwhite), all i can say is the screen size is enough for me, very comfy to read on, i also love that it's small and portable, it encourages more reading (for me at least)

I think they've done well. I find the other kindles awkward to hold. The Oasis one has a grip and that is where most of the weight is. I'm also a fan of page turn buttons.
