what's the point of it when it's the same as other non-free IRC networks?

define "non-free" in this instance, please

Sounds cool, I might hop on later

where's the source?
what's the license?
who is running the servers?
in what jurisdiction are they located?

Where is the trust or transparency?

=wake up sheeple=
It's fairly easy to log an irc network, especially when you're the CIA niggers that set it up
>>
>>54014190

Then what, just stay anonymous, faggot.

It's running UnrealIRCd btw.

the security comes in obscurity. however, anyone looking to do something grey area would (as ANYONE that does anything like that on IRC would know) be best served to use something like blowfish in their channels.

afaik onionirc has been telling users to trust nothing. it's even in their motd on connect. as far as source and license goes, it's an unreal server with anope services.

also, you do realize it's quite simple to see what is being hooked on an ircd, right? protip, there's important info in the /version and /module commands.
>>
seems slow right now. not a lot of people on. surprised at how decent the latency is for being over tor though
>>
Curious as to what exactly this is? My best guess is Deep Web / Peer2Peer. I'm a virgin to Tor. Looks interesting tho.
>>
>>54014458
It's an IRC (chat) server on Tor. Follow the tutorials, once connected type /list for a channel list.
>>
>>54014458
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tor_%28anonymity_network%29#Hidden_services
https://www.torproject.org/docs/hidden-services.html.en

tl;dr the service is only connectable through tor. connection is end-to-end encrypted to the .onion service with perfect forward privacy. server sees all connections as coming from localhost, users see server as localhost. connections never leave tor & do not come out of a tor exit node because the service resides inside of the tor network.

extra tl;dr very easy to remain anonymous. server can maintain hidden IP to prevent DDoS etc
>>
>>54014469
>>54014469
Sounds pretty cool. I couldn't imagine getting much use out of it unfortunately. Nonetheless it would be a cool toy to play with.
>>
>>54014469
What do most of the channels talk about?
>>
>>54014578
pedoshit
>>
>>54014578
it's a brand new network. tonight was their public opening. only a few active channels currently. mostly just general chats about technology & anonymous related stuff. and silly things.

>>54014585
They don't allow pedoshit. But that is a common misconception about onion services. There certainly are disgusting CP hidden services out there, but they aren't all that way.

>>54014622

I can't use irssi? :^(
>>
>>54014675
nope, we didn't allow it as a client due to the security holes in it
>>
>IRC
>privacy
all irc clients leak a crap load of information about your system through default settings and ctcp replies
>>
>>54014675
of course you can! that's what i use to connect. the simplest way, imho, would be for you to install tor (apt-get install tor) and then you can "torify" any app like such: torify irssi
that will start irssi up and push all of its connections through tor. from there you just point your client to onionirchubx5363.onion port 6667. make sure to set your user_name as something that's not actually your username or anything else that might compromise your identity. you know, if you care about that sort of thing.. :) good luck anon!

>>
>>54018000
Nice trips, friend.
Well, you could be getting that error for multiple reasons. Can you show the command you're using to connect and the full error message it shows?
>>
>>54018076

Thx senpai,

Well to launch the program I use:

sudo torify irssi

Then:

/connect onionirchubx5363.onion

And the error shows up:

Unable to connect server onionirchubx.onion port 6667 [operation not permitted]

What do I do wrong?
>>
>>54018125
Why would you run it as root?

This thing is a circlejerk.
It's mostly le anomoumous kids and animefags from volatile/leafbb.

Avoid.

There's been a lot of decent privacy and security related chats going on. Around 30 users hanging out in the #main channel. Pretty cool how it seems like there's somehow less riffraff than the normal IRC network just because it's only accessible through Tor.
>>
anyone do the logo yet? I'll get on it

any reason anyone should think this isn't owned by the feds?

>>
>>54024045
even if it was - everybodys ip shows as localhost since you're connecting through a tor hidden service, which is just a reverse proxy to the local service. just dont be a retard and they wont be able to figure out who you are anyways
